Chapter 1388
โI think Elyse is wonderful. Iโd be happy to,โ Felicia said.
A shadow fell over Pearceโs face. Feliciaโs eyes sparkled with optimism.
โWonderful!โ she exclaimed. โPerhaps now she can find some happiness.โ
Victor excused himself to use the restroom, saying, โIโll be right back.โ He then followed the path Elyse had taken earlier.
Pearce turned to Felicia. โWhy did you invite him? Are you trying to set him up with Elyse?โ he asked, frustration tightening his voice.
โHeโs not right for her. Please, donโt meddle!โ
โMeddle? Elyse is single, and Iโm concerned about her happiness,โ Felicia snapped back, her tone heated.
โShe is no longer a child,โ Pearce said wearily. โSheโs mature enough to make her own choices. She doesnโt need us playing matchmaker.โ
Pearce remembered Elyseโs initial naivetรฉ when he first met her. He had soon discovered, however, the resilience beneath her gentle exterior. Although she sometimes seemed unsure, she was capable of navigating life's challenges. That was why he hadnโt initially opposed her marriage to Jayden, despite his reservations.
โElyse can manage her own relationships,โ he continued. โPlease stop worrying about her.โ
โEnough!โ Felicia slammed her hand on the table. โI wasnโt there for her before, and thatโs how she ended up with Jayden Owen. Iโve lived with that regret. Now that Iโm here, I wonโt let her make another terrible mistake. I will decide who she marries! And you, stay out of it!โ
Pearce stared at her, shocked. โYou canโt just dictate her life!โ
โWhy not? Iโm her grandmother! With her parents gone, itโs my duty!โ Felicia retorted, her stubbornness giving Pearce a headache. She was determined to control Elyseโs marriage and refused to consider alternatives.
Pearce knew Elyseโs independent spirit. He feared his grandmother's interference might break her. He rubbed his forehead, sensing the rising tension.
Meanwhile, humming a tune, Victor entered the yard, his eyes falling upon Elyseโs back.
