Tracy, already pulling on her clothes, waved him off casually. โDonโt worry about me. Go to the hospital. Itโs fine.โ Despite her assurances, he hesitated. Meanwhile, Tracy, the very person Lowell sought, parked nearby, observing his movements intently. She calmly adjusted her clothes, checked her reflection in a compact mirror, and made a phone call.
The call was answered promptly. โDolores Ruiz is awake,โ she announced.
The voice on the other end was surprised. โReally? Are you sure?โ
Visibly irritated, Tracy replied, โYes, Iโm certain. I was with Lowell when he got the call. I heard everything.โ
After a brief silence, the other person said cautiously, โI understand, but Iโm under police surveillance. I canโt do anything rash.โ
With a calmer tone, Tracy responded, โI understand. Iโll make sure not to involve you.โ
