Chapter 140
Theo stared at Elyse, a myriad of conflicting emotions surging within him. He tossed and turned nightly, overwhelmed by self-disappointment for breaking his promises. He craved a second chance. He wondered if making amends would allow Elyse to fade from his mind and let him rest.
He spoke in a coaxing tone, like one might use with a sullen child. "I know it's not possible now, but we parted too soon. There's so much I wanted to do for you."
Elyse scoffed. "What kind of things? Are they even important? Because if they are, why did you ignore them until now?" Her tone hardened. "Stop acting. I don't need your crocodile tears, and I certainly don't need you to do anything for me."
Her resolve was clear. Theo's anger dissipated, replaced by bitter remorse. He couldn't honestly deny his feelings, yet inexplicably, he'd ignored them. Blocking her path, he asked earnestly, "Did you ever love me, Elyse?"
Elyse was taken aback. "What the hell is wrong with this man? Why does he always do things I don't understand?" She met his gaze and chuckled softly. "Yes, I did love you, but so what?"
Theo's brows furrowed. She'd loved him, yet married another man. "Divorce Jayden," he said seriously. "I'll make up for everything."
Elyse tilted her head, sneering. "Make it up? How exactly?"
"I'll give you a much bigger wedding than the one you had," Theo said confidently. "I disgraced you that day, but given a chance, I'll be more careful."
Elyse closed her eyes and sighed. "I don't think you understand why I'm disappointed."
Theo looked offended. "What reason could she possibly have to be disappointed in a man like me?" He grabbed her arm, wanting to ask his burning questions, but Elyse was finished. She struggled to break free, and Richie opened the dining room door, having heard the commotion. Seeing Elyse being manhandled, he roared, "How dare you!" He pulled Elyse behind him, glaring at Theo. "You're a dead man. You look decent, yet you dared to lay hands on her. Apologize, or I'll expose your misconduct online."
Theo was initially bewildered, but then recognized Richie, a popular star with a large fan base. Seeing Richie's protectiveness, Theo laughed derisively.
"What's so funny, you bastard?" Richie demanded. "I said apologize."
Theo snorted, looking Elyse up and down. "I underestimated you. First Jayden Owen, now a celebrity. You can't live without a man, can you?" He clicked his tongue. "Let me see... Jayden couldn't satisfy you, so you found another. Right?"
Elyse's mind went blank. She didn't understand his nonsense, but grasped the implication. She exploded. "What kind of woman do you think I am? How dare you insult me!"
Theo continued mocking her. "Did I say anything wrong?"
