Chapter 201

Tracy was taken aback by the revelation. Glancing around, she lowered her voice. โ€œSo, did you two really have a fight? From an outsiderโ€™s perspective, it seems like you and Jayden deeply care for each other. Youโ€™re a perfect match. Heโ€™s always so attentive to your needs and emotions. Honestly, despite his leg issue, he seems like the perfect husband.โ€

Elyseโ€™s bitter smile betrayed her inner turmoil. โ€œYou think weโ€™re a perfect match, huh? Sometimes I do, too. He supports me through everything, like a pillar. Even in our intimate moments, thereโ€™s a strong connection.โ€ She paused thoughtfully. โ€œBut thereโ€™s always a distance between us. I never know whatโ€™s on his mind, how heโ€™s feeling, or what his plans for the future are.โ€

Tracy hesitated, then cautiously prodded, โ€œAre you saying Jaydenโ€™s wary of you? That he hasnโ€™t fully opened up to you?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s what I think,โ€ Elyse admitted, uncertainty tingeing her voice.

Tracy had a realization. โ€œCould it be that Jaydenโ€™s been too guarded since his accident, maybe even suspicious?โ€

Elyse pondered for a moment. โ€œItโ€™s possible. But then again, maybe not. I canโ€™t shake the feeling that heโ€™s hiding something from me.โ€

Tracy paused, then asked curiously, between bites of her food, โ€œHiding what? What secret do you think heโ€™s keeping?โ€

Elyse confessed, โ€œSometimes I wonder if heโ€™s capable of standing.โ€

Tracy nearly choked, hastily swallowing her food before responding hoarsely, โ€œThatโ€™s absurd. If Jayden could stand, heโ€™d be just like anyone else, wouldnโ€™t he?โ€

She struggled to find the right words. Having known Jayden for so long, she couldnโ€™t imagine him being physically impaired. He seemed perfectly normal. But without evidence, doubts lingered.

โ€œPerhaps rushing into marriage was a mistake,โ€ Tracy concluded, opening a bottle of her beverage and taking a few sips. โ€œYou need time to truly understand each other. Itโ€™s all about learning to accept one another.โ€

Elyse found Tracyโ€™s perspective reasonable. She raised her beverage, clinking it with Tracyโ€™s. โ€œPerhaps Iโ€™m being overly sensitive. Iโ€™ll try to talk to him when I get the chance.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s a good plan. Make sure to cherish him,โ€ Tracy smiled, about to take a sip of her beverage, when her phone rang.

Elyse glanced at the screen. โ€œCall from Liverton. Recognize the number?โ€

Tracy took her phone back and promptly ended the call, adding the number to her blacklist. With a grim expression, she muttered, โ€œWho else but Shaun?โ€

Elyseโ€™s eyes widened. โ€œShaun again? Is he trying to stir up trouble for you?โ€

Tracy impatiently ran a hand through her hair. โ€œNo clue. Last time, it wasnโ€™t from this number. I picked it up by mistake. He had the audacity to claim the wedding wasnโ€™t off.โ€ Her chest rose with agitation. โ€œWho does he think he is? Does he expect me to pine for him forever? I have a right to choose. Since heโ€™s still hung up on Dolores, Iโ€™ll let them have their way.โ€

Tracyโ€™s anger flared, punctuated by a forceful bite of food.

Elyse drew closer. โ€œCalling off the wedding was the right decision. Letโ€™s focus on brighter things.โ€

Tears welled in Tracyโ€™s eyes, but she held them back, mindful of her makeup. Rolling her eyes, she quipped, โ€œYour words are truly touching.โ€

Elyse remained still, cautious not to disrupt Tracyโ€™s makeup. At that moment, several people approached carrying large boxes. Elyse observed their actions, puzzled. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on here?โ€

โ€œProbably an artistโ€™s treat. Not sure who, though. Letโ€™s join the line and find out,โ€ Tracy suggested, preparing to stand. However, she noticed others passing by with human-shaped cutouts on their shoulders.

Elyse glanced at the cutouts, then turned to Tracy with a puzzled expression. โ€œAre you treating the crew?โ€

Tracyโ€™s lips twitched. โ€œWith such a large crew, itโ€™d cost tens of thousands. I donโ€™t have that kind of money.โ€

As if on cue, Elyseโ€™s driver approached with two bags of food. Elyse was shocked. โ€œWhy are you here?โ€

Handing the bags to Elyse, the driver explained, โ€œMr. Owen tasked me with delivering food to the crew under Miss Tracy Bernardโ€™s name.โ€ With that, the driver left to distribute the snacks.

Tracy nudged the stunned Elyse. โ€œThanks to you, Iโ€™ll be quite popular today.โ€
