Chapter 215

Lanny strode to his bedroom after speaking. Glenda reluctantly followed.

"Mom, don't go after him. Dad will hurt you," Mabel warned, her hand gently covering her reddened cheek, her eyes brimming with resentment.

Suppressing her emotions, Glenda forced a smile. "It's alright, dear. Your father must be having difficulties at work. He doesn't usually resort to violence."

Feeling sympathy for Mabel, Glenda stroked her cheek and instructed the butler to fetch an ice pack. Then, she followed Lanny into the bedroom, closing the door.

Glenda's frustration surfaced. "Why did you want me to come in here?" she asked crossly.

Standing by the window, Lanny took a deep breath. "I've been researching nursing homes for the past few days, except for Sunshine Nursing Home."

Recalling Lanny's frequent absences, Glenda realized his motive: he'd been searching for the old woman. "Could she be in Sunshine Nursing Home?" she asked.

Lanny's expression worried. "I'm not sure. I reached the fifth floor before security escorted me out. I wasn't on the visitors list."

Anxiety gnawed at Glenda. "What should we do? She may be there."

Turning to her, Lanny proposed a plan. "I can't enter, but you can. Find a plausible excuse. Meanwhile, I'll check other cities. We must find her."

Glenda hesitated, fear palpable. She took a step back. "You want me to go? I've never done this before."

Observing her hesitation, Lanny snorted mockingly. "You're trying to distance yourself, aren't you? Do you think you'll remain unscathed if the truth comes out?"

Glenda denied it instantly. "I would never think that way."

Lanny firmly seized her wrist, gesturing to her jade bracelet. "Refuse to help, and you risk losing everything: clothes, possessions, jewelry, even Mabel's financial security. Remember where that money comes from."

Glenda trembled under his gaze, understanding she couldn't reveal her true intentions. To maintain her life, she had to help Lanny.

"Go to Sunshine Nursing Home. The sooner we find her, the better," Lanny insisted, releasing her wrist. "Mabel is unmarried. If you want a better future for her, find that woman quickly. Once the threat is eliminated, the truth will remain hidden."

Glenda nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. "By the way," Lanny added casually, "I saw Elyse and Jayden there today. Inquire about them." He moved to the closet to remove his jacket.

Glenda worried. She whispered urgently, "Do you think they know something?"

"Impossible," Lanny denied. "Elyse has never contacted them. She's always been loyal."

Despite his reassurances, Glenda doubted Elyse. She sometimes seemed cold. After all, she wasn't their biological daughter.

"When will you arrange Mabel's marriage?" Glenda asked, thinking of her daughter's future. "Elyse married the disabled Jayden, but his family is influential. We can't allow Mabel to marry someone inferior to the Owens."

Glenda wanted a suitable husband for Mabel, someone from a better family than the Owens. "Our daughter deserves an exceptional man," she stated emphatically.

Lanny's frustration boiled over. "Shut up!" he exclaimed. "I set up a blind date for her. She lost her virginity and ruined our relationship with the Ward family. That's over."

Glenda anxiously asked, "What should we do? She's not a virgin, but is she ineligible for a respectable family?"

"You indulged her too much. She's uncontrollable," Lanny replied angrily.
