Chapter 300:
Elyse sat in the monitoring room when Vicky burst in, furious. Seeing Elyse intensified Vicky’s anger. “You’ve been suspended! How dare you show your face here? Haven’t you caused enough trouble for our orchestra?”
Elyse, taken aback, furrowed her brow. “There’s no need to be so angry. I’m here to uncover the truth,” she replied calmly.
Darren, drawn by the commotion, entered, looking puzzled. He addressed Vicky: “Vicky, are you out of your mind? Why aren’t you practicing your violin? Shouldn’t you be with the orchestra?”
Thinking of the paparazzi outside, Vicky vented her frustration. “This is all your fault, Elyse. Can’t you just stay home? Your actions are affecting everyone.”
Setting down her phone, Elyse stood, her voice sharp. “I’m a victim too. Will staying home make my grievances disappear?”
Vicky, speechless for a moment, finally managed, “Have you found any evidence?”
Elyse gave Vicky a peculiar glance. “Frankly, I’ve uncovered some clues. I’ll seek assistance soon, hoping the truth will emerge quickly.”
“You’ll return to the orchestra before long,” Darren said with an optimistic smile. Elyse nodded, hopeful that retrieving the monitoring footage would restore normalcy. Vicky silently left, fists clenched. She hurried to the elevator, her teeth gritted, and messaged Rebekah, arranging a meeting.
Still resentful from their recent argument, Rebekah arrived at the small garden with a somber expression. “Why did you ask me out?” she asked with displeasure. Lost in thought about Elyse, Vicky was oblivious to Rebekah’s disrespect.
Vicky’s brows furrowed, concern in her gaze. “Are you sure you’ve erased all traces of Mabel’s theft?”
Rebekah affirmed confidently, “Absolutely. I backed up the footage and then deleted it.”
Impatiently, Vicky said, “Elyse will try to recover the deleted data. If she succeeds, she’ll return.”
“If Elyse recovers the data, her collusion with Mabel will be exposed,” Rebekah realized, grasping the seriousness of the situation. Concealing her anxiety, she retorted, “It’s not going to be that simple. Elyse won’t make it.”
Vicky eyed Rebekah suspiciously, Rebekah’s lack of confidence aggravating her. Rebekah’s embarrassment turned to anger. “Do you lack faith in me?”
“No, I trust you,” Vicky assured her, dismissing the concern. She promptly left, determined to strategize with Abram about removing Elyse from the orchestra.
Alone, Rebekah felt a surge of panic and quickly called Mabel. Mabel, surprised, asked, “Why are you calling me?” Rebekah explained the situation, prompting Mabel’s fury. “If Elyse recovers the footage, you owe me six hundred thousand dollars!”
Rebekah’s face drained of color. She had almost spent the six hundred thousand dollars. How could she repay it? Mabel sneered mercilessly. “No matter what, you must stop Elyse, or I’ll hire someone to kill you.”
Understanding Mabel’s seriousness, Rebekah shivered. “I’ll do everything to stop Elyse,” she vowed. After the call, Rebekah fretted. How could she foil Elyse’s investigation? Suddenly, a cunning glint ignited in her eyes as she hurried toward the building entrance.
Seated in the monitoring room, awaiting Jayden’s subordinates, Elyse, bored, decided to get a drink from the canteen. Descending the stairs, someone suddenly dashed out, startling her. Recognizing the person, Elyse was shocked and apprehensive. “Are you out of your mind, Theo? What brings you here?”
Theo rubbed his temples. Having heard about the incident involving Elyse the previous day, he had flown back from another city. He checked to make sure Elyse was unharmed. “I’m relieved you’re okay. I heard the paparazzi are swarming around you.”
Elyse frowned. “Could you please let go of my hand?”
