Chapter 320
Troy scratched his head. "I always wondered how Mabel knew someone from Marsey Island, then I discovered this." He pulled out a phone and handed it to Jayden. "A woman named Kaelyn Bennett introduced them; Mabel owes her agency eighty million dollars."
After reading the chat records between Mabel and Kaelyn, Jayden grew pensive. He had investigated Kaelyn's past after marrying Elyse. She seemed average, but parts of her life were mysteriously absent. He'd been too busy then to delve deeper. He knew she had a mysterious backer. He couldn't understand why she continually opposed Elyse, especially since Elyse had been married to him for months and had nothing to do with Theo.
Troy asked with concern, "Boss, is Mrs. Owen safe? It's been a whole day." He had been searching all day, but there was no sign of Elyse.
Jayden instructed, "Get Tobin here. Has there been any word from Lanny?"
Just as Troy was about to call Tobin, Tobin burst into the study, looking grave. "Sir, our men reported that Lanny and Glenda drove home. It seems they brought someone with them."
Jayden narrowed his eyes. "Who?"
Tobin hesitated. "Judging from the person's figure, it wasn't Mrs. Owen, but Mabel."
Jayden slammed his fist on the table, cursing. "Those two old fools! I had someone check their recent activities. They went to the bank yesterday afternoon, withdrew five million dollars, and then drove to another city."
He stood up, his expression dark. "Go ruin their place."
Troy and Tobin exchanged looks. They knew Lanny and Glenda were in serious trouble.
When Glenda and Lanny got home, they locked the door and told Mabel to stay inside. Terrified, and owing eighty million dollars, Mabel dared not leave. After settling Mabel, Lanny and Glenda finally sat down to catch their breath.
But soon, Glenda anxiously asked, "If Jayden finds out we didn't rescue Elyse, will he retaliate?"
Lanny lit a cigarette and inhaled deeply. "Not necessarily. Maybe Jayden isn't that attached to Elyse. Perhaps he was just playing the part of a devoted husband. He might simply find someone else."
Glenda was unconvinced. "But why do I feel uneasy? Don't you think it was too easy to rescue Mabel? I expected more resistance."
"Let's get some sleep. We'll discuss this tomorrow," Lanny said dismissively.
They were about to head upstairs when they heard a loud rumbling noise. Lanny went to the window. Two excavators were outside their yard.
"What's going on?" he exclaimed.
Glenda stared, stunned. "Honey, are those excavators here for our house?"
As she spoke, the excavators moved toward the house.
Their beautiful yard was quickly reduced to ruins. Awakened by the commotion, the household staff ran outside, just as one excavator demolished part of the house.
Mabel, emerging from the elevator in her pajamas, complained, "Mom! How can I sleep with that noise? Get them out of here!"
"Sleep? We need to run!" Lanny panicked, realizing the excavators were destroying their home. He led them out.
He pleaded with the excavator operators, "I don't know who you are, but please let us go!"
Their pleas were ignored. The excavators continued their destruction, reducing half the house to rubble. Trembling, Mabel cried, "Dad, our house... our house is gone! Who would do this?"
