Chapter 387: Novel Drama

Enzo watched Jayden leave. The elderly butler, standing quietly in the corner, stepped forward and respectfully said, "Jayden is truly remarkable. His sharp intelligence and strategic mind are pivotal to the Owen Group's future success." Enzo remained silent. He was acutely aware of Jayden's business acumen, yet Jayden was not easily influenced. Looking at his untouched tea, Enzo mused, "His brilliance is undeniable, but his restless mind may hinder his achievements." The butler bowed his head, remaining silent. Playing with his teacup, Enzo asked, "It's been about a year since Jayden's car accident, hasn't it?" The butler paused before replying, "One year and four months, sir." Enzo's face hardened. "More than a year has passed, and he still hasn't learned from his experiences or reconsidered his choices. I find that disappointing." The butler nodded in agreement. "His pride may be his undoing unless he confronts challenges and learns from them, even if it means opposing you." Enzo gave a dismissive snort but said nothing. He recognized the need to firmly reprimand Jayden, whose defiance had grown bolder.

After leaving Enzo's house, Jayden didn't return to his office but went straight home. He was greeted by the soothing sounds of a violin. Though not a connoisseur of classical music, he found the melodies comforting. Entering the living room, he was met by Elyse's warm smile. "Why are you home so early?" she asked. Jayden stroked his chin thoughtfully. Now that Enzo knew about his role in founding the company, he saw no reason to hide it from Elyse. "I spoke with my grandfather today," he explained simply. Elyse looked surprised. "What did he want? Was he causing trouble?" Jayden remained calm. "My company has been taking some of the Owen Group's projects, and he's not happy." Elyse considered how to comfort him. It suddenly struck her that Jayden had unexpectedly revealed his closely guarded secret. She had suspected his involvement in secretive dealings, but he'd never confirmed it despite her questions. Hearing it directly from him was unexpected.

Seeing her complex reaction, Jayden reassured her, "I didn't mean to hide it. I just thought it best that not everyone knew." Elyse looked at him with mixed feelings and asked, "Have you accomplished your goals?" "Not entirely," Jayden admitted. "My grandfather discovered my actions. So, I no longer need to keep it secret." Elyse opened her mouth to respond but was speechless. She realized she should support him regardless of the outcome, yet she felt stung by not being more involved in his secretive plans. His past reticence made her feel he hadn't fully trusted her. Despite her internal conflict, Elyse forced a smile. After a pause, Jayden attempted to lighten the mood, suggesting, "Even though it's late, would you like to see my company?" Caught off guard, Elyse responded, "What?" Jayden clarified, "Since you're my wife, you should see where I work." He expected her to be thrilled, but she hesitated. Looking down, Elyse said, "I have an important competition tomorrow. Can we talk later?" Without another word, she went upstairs, her expression unreadable as she carried her violin. Left alone and confused, Jayden turned to Driscoll. "Is she upset again? What's wrong? I explained why I kept things from her. Why is she still unhappy?" Driscoll gave Jayden a knowing look. "It's understandable. As your wife, she likely expects full disclosure, trusting you wouldn't betray her trust. Your secrecy might make her feel you don't trust her completely." Jayden frowned. "I've hinted at my true identity before. She just isn't picking up on it." Driscoll's expression was a mix of amusement and concern. "Deception is the biggest test in any marriage. How would you feel if she were hiding something from you?" Jayden admitted he wouldn't like it. Driscoll's concern deepened. What Jayden truly concealed from Elyse wasn't just his business, but also the fact that his legs were fine and he could walk. Driscoll feared the day the truth inevitably came out; Elyse's fury would be considerable.
