Chapter 406: Novel Drama

Tracy stared at Shaun, desperation etched in her eyes. "I'd rather marry an ordinary man and live a simple life than marry you and fight your family," she declared. Shaun saw the sadness on her face and felt a pang of disappointment. "So you're giving up?" he asked. After a moment of silence, Tracy closed her eyes and nodded wearily.

His parents' open hostility and guarded behavior during her wedding planning had worn her down. She hadn't told anyone, but their manipulative schemes had taken their toll. She hadn't expected such cunning and manipulative behavior from a wealthy family. But that wasn't her only challenge. Dolores, a woman perfectly suited to Shaun, was the final straw. Dolores' family connections offered Shaun advantages her own family couldn't. Dolores was his first love. How could she compete?

So she chose to give up. She no longer wanted to love Shaun; she hadn't taken care of herself in a long time. For the past year, she'd worked tirelessly for both Shaun and her family. Opening her eyes, she spoke calmly, "You should leave. Make sure to repay Jayden before you go."

Shaun clenched his fists so tightly his knuckles cracked. Jayden, noticing Shaun's hesitation, snapped, "Mr. Kennedy, don't even think about using force in my home, or you'll face serious consequences."

Shaun glanced at Jayden, snorted, and prepared to leave. He cast one last lingering look at Tracy. Their cold gazes met, both acknowledging the irreversible change in their feelings.

Elyse finally sighed in relief. "Finally, he's gone. That was terrifying. I thought he'd hit me." Tracy, drained, collapsed to the floor. Touching her forehead, she felt the cold sweat on her palm.

Meanwhile, Jayden checked the picture Driscoll had sent. Seeing the gate blown off its hinges, he told his driver to speed home. Jayden scowled. "Shaun is truly out of his mind. Blowing up my gate… where did he find the nerve?"

"I'm sorry, it's my fault," Tracy apologized, guilt etched on her face. She hadn't realized how far Shaun would go. Elyse shook her head. "It's not your fault. Come on, I'll take you to your room to rest. You must be exhausted." Tracy nodded and followed.

After freshening up, she tucked Elyse into bed. Elyse reached out to touch Tracy's face, comforting her.

"Look at you. You're so lovely. You'll be a star one day, and plenty of men will be lining up. Shaun just wasn't the right one, but you'll find someone much better."

Tracy chuckled. "In college, I was sure I only liked Shaun. I thought there was no better man. I loved him so much."

Elyse remembered this vividly, despite not attending the same university. Tracy had adored Shaun, constantly praising him while putting herself down.

Tracy smiled through her tears, wiping them away before continuing. "I didn't expect marrying him to be so hard. His family didn't like me, and he was too arrogant to notice how I felt. He was so cold, always proper and never warm or affectionate. Seeing him today was shocking. I've never seen him like that, and it scared me."

Elyse, remembering Shaun's expression, felt a twinge of fear. "It seems like he'd be the kind to hit his wife. Don't fall for him. He'd probably hit you if you married him."

Tracy laughed. "I thought so too. Today was the first time I'd seen him like that, and even though it scared me, it felt like he was finally alive."

Elyse shook her head firmly. "Well, then you definitely shouldn't marry someone like that. Do you want to spend your life with an ice cube? Find a better man."

Tracy nodded. "You're right. I can find someone better."
