Chapter 423:

Elyse, gently holding Jaydenโ€™s hand, asked worriedly, โ€œAre you still feeling unwell?โ€

Jayden nodded. โ€œYes,โ€ he said, adding, โ€œIt hurts quite a bit.โ€

The driver glanced at Jayden in the rearview mirror skeptically.

Elyse seemed oblivious to Jaydenโ€™s exaggerated discomfort. The driver, who had previously doubted Elyseโ€™s deep love for Jayden, now found it evident.

Elyse gently caressed Jaydenโ€™s cheek, reassuring him, โ€œWeโ€™ll be at the hospital soon. Peyton will check you out, and youโ€™ll be okay.โ€

Jayden nodded, closed his eyes, and further exaggerated his weakness.

At the hospital, Peyton raised an eyebrow at Elyseโ€™s description of Jaydenโ€™s condition. โ€œHeโ€™s in a lot of pain, you say?โ€

Elyse nodded earnestly. โ€œPlease check him quickly,โ€ she urged. โ€œHeโ€™s really suffering.โ€

Peyton touched his nose, looking confused. He glanced at Jayden, who shot him a menacing look.

Understanding the hint, Peyton took control of Jaydenโ€™s wheelchair, wheeled him into his office, and began to close the door.

Elyse started to follow, but Peyton raised a hand. โ€œFamily members usually wait outside during this type of exam,โ€ he explained, as she looked puzzled.

Elyse nodded, reluctantly retreated, and sat down in the hospital corridor.

Just then, her phone rang. It was Gavin. She suddenly remembered leaving the concert hall abruptly without telling anyone.

She answered, apologizing, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Gavin. I left in a hurry.โ€

Gavin replied, โ€œItโ€™s fine. I figured you might have left, so Irving, Fiona, and I left too. Rest up today. Tomorrow we start intensive practice. Hope youโ€™re ready.โ€

Hearing this, Elyse turned pale. The previous days had nearly broken her, and those weren't even intensive sessions.

Elyse hung up, her mind filled with dread. Her immediate concern, however, remained Jayden. She was clueless about the nature and extent of his supposed injury.

Back in Peytonโ€™s office, Peyton stood arms crossed, asking, โ€œAre you actually sick? You donโ€™t seem hurt. Whatโ€™s all this about?โ€

Jayden, relaxed in the wheelchair, responded, โ€œCanโ€™t you just note something down in my medical records?โ€

Peyton laughed. โ€œWhatโ€™s this? Playing the wounded hero?โ€

Jayden shook his head, wagging a finger. โ€œYou donโ€™t get it. Itโ€™s not often you get a chance like this. Iโ€™m doing it to strengthen my bond with Elyse.โ€

Peyton laughed sarcastically. โ€œReally, buddy? Youโ€™re deceiving your wife again. Donโ€™t you worry that it might come back to haunt you one day?โ€

Jayden looked incredulous. โ€œDeceiving? I call it strategizing.โ€

โ€œAlright, alright, you win. Iโ€™m not going to debate this with you,โ€ Peyton said, sitting down and beginning to fill out the medical records. He casually prescribed some ointment for external injuries and handed the prescription to Jayden. โ€œAnyway,โ€ he commented, โ€œif someone wants to give my hospital some business, Iโ€™m all for it.โ€

Jayden checked the prescription several times, then responded with satisfaction, โ€œNext time I need something, Iโ€™ll come to you.โ€

Peyton, exasperated, said, โ€œJust go already.โ€

When Elyse saw Jayden emerge from the doctorโ€™s office, she rushed over, asking, โ€œHow are you? Is it serious?โ€

Jayden shook his head. โ€œJust a surface injury. A bit of this ointment and Iโ€™ll be good in a couple of days.โ€

Relieved, Elyse sighed, grateful that Jaydenโ€™s condition wasnโ€™t serious.
