Chapter 449:
In a Maybach, Jayden sat with a cigarette, smoke curling upwards. Tobin sat beside him, a black laptop resting on his lap. He typed rapidly, reporting, โSir, the assassin who broke into your house last night was part of a foreign mercenary team. Their mission was to kill everyone in your household, including the dogs.โ
He added, โThey are incredibly ruthless.โ
Jayden flicked ash from his cigarette and replied coolly, โHave you identified who hired them?โ
Looking embarrassed, Tobin admitted, โNo, sir. The killers said they only accepted the job and have no information about the client.โ
Jayden took a long drag, extinguishing the cigarette in the ashtray. He said indifferently, โInform their employer that I want to make a deal.โ
Tobin, understanding Jaydenโs plan, asked in surprise, โYou intend to hire them yourself?โ
Jayden nodded. โYes. If the mastermind is so elusive, I wonโt waste time searching. Iโll have those killers eliminate him.โ
โUnderstood. Iโll arrange it immediately,โ Tobin replied, pulling out his phone.
Jayden returned to his wheelchair and exited the car. Heโd been summoned to the Owen Group again, puzzling considering yesterdayโs meeting ended in conflict. Theyโd tried strong-arm tactics without success. What new approach could they possibly have?
Enzoโs assistant greeted Jayden upon entering the building. Jayden frowned. โHas my grandfather arrived?โ
โYes, heโs been waiting for you. Please follow me upstairs.โ
Jayden took the elevator to the chairmanโs office. He found Enzo, in a black suit, casually sipping coffee. Enzo glanced at Jayden and asked bluntly, โWhatโs this about?โ
Enzoโs eyes held a mix of emotions, which Jayden sensed before Enzo masked them.
โCome here, Jayden,โ Enzo said, indicating the space beside him. โI want to talk.โ
Jayden approached. โGet to the point.โ
Enzo studied him. โDid you sleep well last night?โ
Jayden grew alert. Last nightโs events were tightly controlled; this shouldn't have leaked. Did his grandfather somehow know?
Jayden answered cautiously, โYes.โ
Enzo slammed the table. โHow can you sleep! The shareholders were furious yesterday because of you. Are you trying to destroy the Owen Group?โ
Jaydenโs eyes showed doubt. His grandfather seemed genuinely angry about the shareholdersโ meeting. Had last nightโs assassination been unrelated?
Jayden responded cautiously, โThe general shareholdersโ meeting isn't my responsibility. You canโt blame me.โ
Enzo continued to pound the desk, then stated his point: he wanted the Bayzee Group to be a key player in expanding the Owen Groupโs overseas market, but Jayden refused.
Enzo pressed, โAre you absolutely refusing?โ
Jayden responded firmly, โIโve invested everything in the Bayzee Group. Iโve left the Owen Group. You can have everything.โ He tapped the desk. โDo you plan to forcibly annex my business?โ
Enzo, stern, stood. โThatโs enough. Since your car accident, youโve been useless to the Owen Group. Go back and donโt show your face again.โ
โFine,โ Jayden replied, leaving without another word.
In the lobby, Jayden saw Corrie grabbing a womanโs collar. โShame on you! Brook is my man! Who are you to come looking for him? My father will have you deported.โ
Lennie Walsh, the woman, responded weakly, โBrook asked me to come. He said he missed me.โ
