Chapter 464
Corrie had spent the past few days visiting several hospitals. She knew Enzo had monthly checkups, but unaware of which hospital he used, she'd been searching tirelessly. She also knew Jayden had someone watching her, making secrecy crucial.
One day, her persistence paid off. She spotted Enzo entering a hospital.
"Mr. Owen," she called, hurrying over in her high heels, "I'm Corrie Bates. I need to speak with you. Can you spare a few minutes?" Her voice was pleading.
Enzo looked at her, momentarily puzzled, then recognized her. His butler stepped forward protectively, glaring at Corrie. "Who do you think you are? Get out and leave us alone."
Anxiously glancing around to ensure Jayden's men weren't watching, Corrie begged, "Mr. Owen, please! Just a few minutes. It's about Jayden. I'll leave immediately afterward."
Jayden's name caught Enzo's attention; a shadow crossed his eyes. He raised a hand to silence his butler. "Alright. Where do you want to talk?"
Corrie pointed to a nearby doctor's office. "In there." Anticipation shone in her eyes.
Enzo nodded, tapped his walking stick, and entered the office, his butler close behind. Corrie, ensuring she remained unseen, quickly followed and shut the door.
The office was empty. Enzo sat down and asked in an aged voice, "What do you want to tell me?"
Corrie took a deep breath. "It's about Jayden. You've all been deceived. He's lied to everyone."
Enzo considered this, unable to recall anything suspicious. "What has he lied about?"
"He isn't crippled. He's been pretending!" Corrie exclaimed, pounding the desk for emphasis. "I discovered his secret accidentally. Fearing exposure, he's had someone watching my parents. If I reveal it, they'll be killed. Mr. Owen, please help me! I've always been loyal. Please."
Enzo didn't inquire further about Jayden's secret. Instead, he repeated her word as if incredulous. "Loyal? To whom?"
Corrie was taken aback. "To the Owen family. My family depends on yours for survival. Besides, I'm to marry Brook. I will always be loyal to the Owens."
Enzo nodded, seemingly satisfied. "I guarantee your parents' safety."
Corrie breathed a sigh of relief. "Mr. Owen, what will you do about Jayden? He's hurt everyone with his deception."
Enzo stood. "You needn't concern yourself. By the way, you're Brook's girl, aren't you? Finally, he's done something right."
Corrie was delighted. Free from Jayden's threat and with a powerful ally, she knew her parents would be overjoyed.
Enzo left the hospital and entered his car. His butler immediately closed the door. "Mr. Owen, Jayden is outrageous! How dare he pretend to be crippled? He's deceived us for over a year!"
Enzo closed his eyes and exhaled. "I don't understand why he did it, but he's broken many family rules."
The butler gritted his teeth. "He's always been unruly. You wanted to make him sole heir, but he even rejected your offer."
Enzo responded calmly, "He's unruly, yes, but he's also the most talented and brilliant."
The butler couldn't argue; it was true.
"What a pity! I hoped he'd change his mind. But he's disappointed me again." Enzo slowly opened his eyes, a murderous glint in them. "I will not show mercy this time."
