Chapter 493:
Tracy desperately struggled against Shaun's grip. Despite her efforts, he held on tenaciously, ignoring her scratches and bites.
Just then, a car roared from the road, barreling across the lawn, knocking over a trash can, and speeding into the parking lot. It was a blur. Tracy's gaze followed it as it hurtled toward Elyse.
"Elyse, watch out!" Tracy screamed, dashing toward her. Shaun, sensing the danger, followed.
Elyse, preoccupied with hunger pangs, was oblivious until Tracy's scream startled her. She turned to see the car charging toward her, frozen in shock for a moment.
"Elyse!"
Jayden's shout cut through the air. Elyse looked toward him, her confusion growing. Jayden, despite being confined to a wheelchair, had discarded something he was holding and was sprinting toward her with astonishing speed.
Elyse stared at his legs, a disbelieving thought striking her: Had he deceived her?
As the thought crossed her mind, Jayden reached Elyse, swept her into his arms, and rolled them both across the ground, narrowly avoiding the car.
"Are you alright?" Tracy cried, frantic and near tears. She had seen Jayden move with impossible speed, rescuing Elyse at the last second. No ordinary person could have reacted so quickly. They had been inches from death.
Rushing to their side, Tracy trembled with worry. "Are you okay? Please, tell me you're fine! Oh my gosh!"
Jayden held Elyse close. She felt no pain but noticed a sticky substance on her hand—fresh, warm blood. Elyse's lips quivered.
"Jayden? Jayden, what's happening?"
He didn't answer. He collapsed against her.
Tracy saw the blood on Elyse's hand. Lifting Jayden's shirt, she gasped at the wound. Tears welled in her eyes. "Elyse, Jayden's bleeding from his waist! It's pouring out. Is he going to die?"
Elyse snapped out of her shock. She shook Jayden, desperate. "Wake up, Jayden. Listen to me. I'm pregnant, and you're going to be a father. I've been keeping it a secret for a few days. Are you mad at me? I won't keep anything from you anymore… Just don't die." Tears streamed down her face.
Tracy, realizing the urgency, called emergency services with trembling hands. The ambulance arrived quickly and took Jayden away.
As Tracy prepared to go to the hospital with Elyse, she remembered something and looked at Shaun, who was confronting the driver. "I'll take care of this," he said. "You go to the hospital. I'll catch up later."
