Fiona lowered her head and murmured, "I understand, Gavin. There's no need to say more."

She worried about Gavin speaking in front of Elyse and Jayden. Would Jayden think less of her for withdrawing from the contest? Would this affect his opinion of her? These thoughts weighed heavily on her as she glanced up to gauge his reaction. Jayden, however, remained focused on Elyse, ignoring Fiona completely. She felt invisible.

A wave of defeat and jealousy washed over her. Elyse had a handsome, devoted husband—why hadn't fate been so kind to her? Her envy intensified.

Gavin steered the conversation toward the Swan Cup, sharing his experiences. Jayden excused himself to take a work call, leaving the ward.

After a few minutes, Fiona stood. "Gavin, I need to use the restroom. I'll be right back." She quickly left the room.

Elyse pointed to the private bathroom. "You don't need to go outside. We have one right here."

Gavin shrugged. "Let her go. Maybe she prefers the one outside."

But Fiona wasn't going to the restroom. She was looking for Jayden.

She found him in the small garden. Approaching with a bright smile, her demeanor shifted to shyness as he turned.

"Jayden!"

He ended his call and eyed her with distance. "You're Elyse's studio fellow, right? What's on your mind?"

Fiona hesitated. "Do you remember intervening in an assault a few nights ago? Near the Blue Sea Music Studio. You were masked." Her cheeks flushed. She smiled softly. "If not for you, I wouldn't be able to thank you today. I recognized you immediately. I really appreciate your help."

Jayden regarded her thoughtfully. "I'm sorry, Miss, but you're mistaken. I wasn't there."

Fiona pressed, "How can you deny it? I knew it was you. Why won't you admit it?"

He shook his head. "I'm not denying anything; it simply wasn't me. You need to find the right person."

Doubt crept into Fiona's certainty. Could she be wrong? Their silhouettes were so similar. Could it really not have been him?

Silence fell, heavy with her disappointment.

Jayden rose, his tone final. "I'm sorry. I have to get back to work. Please, return to Elyse's ward."
