Chapter 515
Gavin and Fiona left, leaving Elyse alone with Irving. Elyse turned to Irving, who was eating fruit. "Aren't you in charge of Fiona's practice plan, Irving?" she asked.
Irving calmly continued eating. "Gavin is in charge of Fiona; I'm responsible for your practice plan."
Elyse was silent for a moment before asking, "When do you plan to start?"
"In a couple of days," Irving replied. "Once you're better, I'll come over and give you a targeted practice plan." He quickly finished the fruit, discarded the toothpick, and clapped his hands. She couldn't decipher his mood.
Unbeknownst to Elyse, Irving had seen Fiona talking to Jayden while sunbathing in the hospital garden. He couldn't hear their conversation, but it was clear Fiona initiated it. As far as he knew, it was their first meeting. Given Fiona's reserved nature, her initiative seemed unusual.
This led him to suspect a deeper connection between them. Jayden seemed like the type of man for whom Fiona might go the extra mile. The situation struck Irving as odd and ominous.
Later, Irving deliberately lingered, returning to Elyse's ward just in time to overhear Fiona speaking with Elyse. His intuition suggested Fiona might be seeking Jayden's phone number for ulterior motives.
After a moment's thought, Irving said to Elyse, "Next time Fiona asks about Jayden, don't tell her."
Elyse, flipping through music sheets, casually asked, "Why?"
Irving looked at Elyse, wondering if she was truly unaware of the situation. Was she unconcerned that Fiona might be interested in her husband? He then considered that few would suspect a friend of such an interest.
Fiona was the one with issues, Irving thought.
He casually fabricated an excuse: "I can't stand Fiona. I just don't want her to get what she wants."
"How long are you going to keep fighting with Fiona?" Elyse asked, puzzled. She was unwilling to entertain his childish dislike of Fiona.
"Are you not going to listen to me?" Irving's tone hardened, and he glared at her.
"Alright, I'll do as you say," Elyse sighed. She knew better than to cross him, given his control over her practice plan.
Irving nodded, stood up, and said, "I'll leave now. Your butler will bring you lunch, won't he?"
Elyse nodded. "Yes, he should be here soon."
Irving nodded and left the ward.
About fifteen minutes later, Jayden, having finished work, returned. Elyse stared at him as he walked normally.
Seeing her expression, Jayden asked, "Is there something you want to say?"
Elyse stared at him before saying, "It's still hard to believe you can walk normally."
Jayden was momentarily stunned. "I told you I can explain this."
Elyse shook her head. "There's no need. I don't want to hear it."
She turned away, quietly reading her book.
Jayden stared at her. He knew their relationship was fragile. An invisible barrier existed between them—one Elyse had once tried to break, but he had always stopped her. Slowly, she had stopped trying. Now, it seemed he was the one wanting to break through.
Considering this, Jayden slowly approached Elyse, sat down, and asked, "When do you want to talk? I'm always here."
Elyse shook her head. "I don't know what we'd talk about. I'm very tired and don't feel like talking to you. Just go finish your work. Don't hover."
Why was she doing this? Would they remain forever separated by this barrier? Jayden felt a sudden fear. If he couldn't bridge the gap, was this their future? He felt like a trapped animal, desperate for freedom but unable to find a way.
