Chapter 556:
Lanny responded, "Yes, I do. If she weren't imprisoned by you, how could I have not seen her for days?"
Elyse rolled her eyes at Lanny's insolence. With Lanny responsible for Dorothy's death, the attempted homicide on Glenda was no longer under investigation. In fact, Elyse could now release Glenda. But both Lanny and Glenda were monsters. How could she let them go?
Seeing Elyse's perplexed and weary expression, Lanny softened his tone. "I know I haven't treated you well, but Glenda has cared for you, hasn't she? Are you going to condemn her to death? Are you going to lead us both to our graves?"
Elyse sneered. "Both of you treated me badly. Don't play the family card; it won't work."
Lanny's face hardened. He clenched his fists, wishing he could kill her. But he knew better than to act rashly. His desperation grew, and he had to proceed carefully.
"But I'd like to arrange a meeting between you and Glenda," Elyse said, approaching the furious Lanny with a shadowy smirk. She was determined to make the encounter as uncomfortable as possible.
Turning to Driscoll, she said, "Please bring Glenda. She must miss her husband, whom she hasn't seen in a while, right?"
Driscoll immediately relayed the message to the guards via intercom.
Glenda, unaware of what was happening, assumed Mabel had come to visit. Nervous, she wondered how many times she had to tell Mabel to understand.
Upon entering the room, Glenda saw Lanny. She didn't know he was imprisoned for a hit-and-run. She thought he was there to take her home. This made Glenda tear up. For a moment, she felt she'd made the right decision marrying him, and that he still cared.
Elyse looked at Lanny with a piercing gaze. "I'm letting you see her; I consider that considerate. If I weren't, I'd have sent you away."
Tears still welling, Glenda looked puzzled. "What do you mean? Didn't Lanny come to take me home?"
"I want to, but Elyse won't let me. I can't take you home without her approval," Lanny said helplessly.
Glenda's expression changed. Filled with anger and hatred toward Elyse, she saw Elyse as the obstacle to her freedom.
Elyse found Glenda's expression amusing. Ignoring Lanny, she asked, "Why isn't Mabel here? I remember her showing more concern for Glenda than you ever did. Why are you the only one here today?"
Glenda also wanted to hear Lanny's answer.
At the mention of Mabel, Lanny felt a pang of empathy, but quickly dismissed it. "Mabel is busy today. I'd like to take Glenda home myself."
Elyse smiled. "I can't make that decision. You should ask Jayden. He's the only one who can decide."
Lanny was furious. "Jayden would never release Glenda. He's so deranged he'd lock her up forever."
"Humph! You don't say. Why is my derangement news to you?" Jayden asked calmly, but with a cold undertone.
He entered the room with a cold aura, his intense gaze fixed on Lanny before he stood beside Elyse. In an unwavering voice, he said, "Choose your words carefully, or face the consequences."
"Please forgive me, Mr. Owen. I spoke in anger," Lanny quickly pleaded, realizing he'd gone too far.
Jayden briefly looked at Lanny before turning to Glenda. "I can let Glenda go. Dorothy was killed by you, wasn't she?"
Astonished, Glenda asked, "Is it true, Lanny? Did you kill Dorothy?"
Lanny, understanding Glenda's shock, shouted, "Be quiet! You have no right to speak."
Then, flashing a reassuring smile at Jayden, he said, "I know you were concerned about Dorothy, and she meant a lot to you, but it was an accident. I'll regret my mistake for the rest of my life."
