Chapter 569:

The following afternoon, Elyse and Jayden arrived at the hospital as planned. Upon entering the lobby, they were greeted by Fiona, who was already waiting.

For the first time, Elyse didn't greet Fiona. Instead, she stood silently beside Jayden, her eyes fixed on Fiona.

Fiona looked embarrassed. She'd assumed Elyse would overlook yesterday's incident, but clearly, she hadn't. Nevertheless, Fiona maintained a facade of concern to achieve her goal.

Approaching them, Fiona asked, "Elyse, are you feeling alright? I came to keep you company today."

Elyse calmly turned away. "I've already made it clear I don't need your company. My husband is here."

Jayden, who had been on his phone, looked up. He glanced at Elyse and softly asked, "Are you upset?"

Elyse replied quietly, "We had an argument yesterday."

Jayden nodded understandingly, asking no further questions. He respected Elyse's privacy and didn't want to interfere.

Fiona watched Jayden intently before trying to position herself between them, appearing close to Elyse. She softly interjected, "Please don't be angry. I know I was wrong. Let me accompany you."

Before Elyse could respond, Jayden stepped away abruptly, his expression hardening, his eyes narrowing at Fiona. "Are you blind? There's plenty of space, yet you squeezed between us."

He then protectively moved around Elyse, putting his arm around her shoulders. "If anything happens to Elyse because of you, I will ruin your life, regardless of who you think you are."

Fiona's initial shock at Jayden's harsh words quickly turned to wounded pride. It was obvious Jayden was focused solely on Elyse.

Meanwhile, Elyse felt a growing unease, as if expecting trouble.

Jayden noticed her discomfort. He gently held her shoulders, his voice filled with concern. "What's wrong, Elyse? Are you feeling unwell?"

Elyse shook her head slightly. "I just feel uneasy."

Jayden's gaze shifted to Fiona, his tone impatient. "She feels unwell the moment you appear. What a jinx!"

Fiona felt deeply hurt. She looked from Jayden to Elyse, anger rising. Was Elyse feigning vulnerability to keep Jayden's attention?

Hurt, she retorted, "I did nothing. How can you accuse me like this?"

Jayden's words were sharp. "You shouldn't have come. My wife wouldn't be uncomfortable if you weren't here."

Normally, Elyse would have intervened, but she felt unusually unwell and wanted distance from Fiona.

She remained silent, which was unusual for her.

Seeing Elyse's lack of defense, Fiona's resentment intensified. Elyse seemed intent on driving her away to keep Jayden for herself.

Fiona considered her options but couldn't bring herself to voice her anger. She didn't want to lose her composure in front of Jayden. If he formed a negative impression, her chances of marrying him would be ruined.

Clutching her chest, Elyse whispered, "Let's go for my checkup. I want to go home early."

Jayden nodded, ignoring Fiona. "Okay, whatever you want."

He guided Elyse toward the elevators. His complete attention was on Elyse, showcasing his devotion.

Fiona's heart ached with envy as she watched Jayden care for Elyse. She couldn't understand why such a remarkable man had chosen Elyse, an ordinary woman.

Despite her jealousy, Fiona hid her emotions. She dreaded revealing her true feelings, yet she longed for Jayden. She believed her love for him burned as brightly as, if not more than, Elyse's.

With a composed expression, Fiona discreetly followed them, hoping proximity might create an opportunity to be alone with Jayden.

Unaware of Fiona's presence, Elyse massaged her temples, feeling a creeping unease, as if threatened. She focused on her checkup, trying to calm her anxiety.

Once finished, they headed for the elevator to meet her obstetrician. Inside, they were surprised to see Brook waiting.

Brook's face lit up. "Hey, what brings you two to the hospital?" . . .
