Chapter 625:
Lewis looked bewildered. Mia intervened gently, saying, “Eva mentioned you asked her to deliver the document to Mr. Owen.”
Eva insisted, “Yes! He told me to give it to Mr. Owen!”
Still puzzled, Lewis replied, “I did ask you to send him a document, but what’s the problem? Isn’t that standard procedure?”
Jayden reassured him, “You did nothing wrong.” Turning to Eva, he continued, “All executives are involved, and none made a mistake. So, who's responsible for this mess?”
Eva was speechless.
Elyse sighed, crossed her arms, and murmured, “Just tell her to leave. I’m tired.”
The three executives exchanged glances, misinterpreting Elyse’s meaning. They thought she resented Eva and wanted her fired.
Elyse clarified to Eva, “Your mistake was not knocking before entering. You interrupted a private moment between Jayden and me.”
Mia’s expression subtly shifted. She’d recently noticed Eva’s calculating behavior and the unusual amount of attention she showered Jayden with. Even with Jayden's absence, Eva made a point of strolling past the CEO's office daily.
A realization struck Mia. She understood why Jayden had orchestrated this: to put Eva in her place and emphasize Elyse's importance to him. The more she considered it, the more it made sense. Jayden clearly cared deeply for Elyse; he was deeply in love with her.
While the executives began to understand Jayden's perspective, Eva remained oblivious. She believed Elyse was using her position as Jayden's wife to dominate her, dismissing Elyse's gestures as insincere.
Jayden glanced at Elyse, noting her composure. He was pleased by her unusual calm. Suppressing his thoughts, he firmly instructed Mia, “Mia, take her out. If this happens again, you know what to do.”
Mia nodded. “Yes, Mr. Owen.”
With a stern look at Eva, Mia escorted her from the office. Faint echoes of her reprimand were heard down the hallway.
After Mia and Eva left, Lewis, with numerous projects demanding his attention, announced, “Mr. and Mrs. Owen, I’ll take my leave.” Kash quickly followed suit.
Once alone, Jayden embraced Elyse. “You look exhausted. Are you tired?”
After a long silence, Elyse softly asked, “You know Eva has feelings for you, don’t you?”
Jayden felt a surge of happiness; her jealousy confirmed her love for him. Her subdued demeanor was a result of the abortion, which had affected her health and made her more reserved. Relieved, his spirits lifted. “Shouldn’t I have acknowledged that?”
Elyse looked up, a mischievous glint in her eyes. “I know you’re well aware.”
She continued, “When did you find out about the intern’s crush on you?”
“It’s relevant now,” Jayden admitted, unable to pinpoint the exact moment he’d realized Eva's feelings. He knew only that after a previous incident, he'd distanced himself; she was no longer his secretary, nor had she transitioned to a regular employee role.
After a moment, Elyse said slowly, “It seems you’re still avoiding my question.”
Jayden didn’t hear her clearly, catching only the word “question.” Leaning closer, he asked, “What did you just say?”
Elyse blinked away tears and shook her head. “I didn’t say anything. You must have misheard me.”
Sensing something was amiss, Jayden gently cradled her face and kissed her. “If Eva’s presence bothers you, I’ll speak to Mia about managing it. You shouldn’t feel uncomfortable around her, alright?”
Elyse nodded. “I know. I’m the one you love the most.”
Jayden smiled. “Absolutely. I brought you here today so everyone knows you’re the woman I love.”
Elyse managed a smile. “I bet that makes it tough for the other female employees. Peyton mentioned you're seen as the most eligible bachelor. They probably think they've hit the jackpot if they get your attention.”
