Chapter 647:

โ€œItโ€™s okay,โ€ Morgan said, a touch of surprise lingering in her voice. โ€œIโ€™m more shocked you actually showed up.โ€

โ€œMorgan,โ€ Pearce emphasized, a hint of steel in his gaze. โ€œNot Janet anymore.โ€

Pearce scratched his head sheepishly. โ€œOld habits die hard. To me, youโ€™ll always be Janet. Morgan feelsโ€ฆ alien.โ€

A wry smile tugged at Morganโ€™s lips. โ€œPeople change, Pearce. You should too.โ€

Pearce nodded reluctantly. โ€œAlright, Morgan it is.โ€

Suddenly, Codyโ€™s voice broke the flow of their conversation. Lost in a world of self-recrimination, he lamented, โ€œWhere else could Fiona go after leaving Blue Sea? I must have been a terrible instructor.โ€

Morgan whipped her head towards Cody; a sharp pinch to his thigh silenced his internal monologue. The pain jolted Cody awake. He blinked blearily, confusion and a hint of annoyance clouding his features. โ€œWhat was that for? I wasnโ€™t bothering anyone.โ€

โ€œLook whoโ€™s here,โ€ Morgan said, gesturing towards Pearce with a pointed finger.

Following her lead, Codyโ€™s eyes landed on Pearce. Disbelief flickered across his face for a moment before he rubbed his brow. โ€œFor a second there, I thought I saw my friend Rickey.โ€

A wry smile tugged at Pearceโ€™s lips. โ€œIs the resemblance that strong?โ€

Cody studied him for a moment, a newfound seriousness in his eyes. โ€œAt first glance, yeah. But itโ€™s more than looks. Thereโ€™s a spirit there, a resemblance in demeanor.โ€

Morgan nodded in agreement. โ€œYou have your fatherโ€™s features, with a hint of Rickey thrown in.โ€

Pearce gave a thoughtful nod. Morgan scanned the room, taking in the familiar faces. โ€œSpeaking of reunions,โ€ she suggested, โ€œwhy donโ€™t we call Elyse over and make it a proper gathering?โ€

Codyโ€™s eyes lit up. โ€œThatโ€™s a great idea! I have tons of stories and memories to share with her. Perfect timing!โ€

Pearceโ€™s smile faltered slightly. โ€œActually, you might not be able to see Elyse.โ€

Confusion settled on Codyโ€™s face. โ€œWhy not? Sheโ€™s probably home. We can just head over.โ€

Pearce shook his head. โ€œItโ€™s more complicated than that. Jayden put her under house arrest. Havenโ€™t you noticed she hasnโ€™t been in touch lately?โ€

This revelation hit Morgan and Cody like a slap. The realization washed over them, leaving them speechless. A frown creased Morganโ€™s brow. โ€œHouse arrest? Why would Jayden do that? Do you know anything, Pearce? Spill the beans!โ€

Pearce sighed heavily. โ€œA few days ago, Elyse met with me. She wanted a divorce from Jayden. We were just starting to talk when he showed up, dragged her away, and locked her up.โ€

โ€œDivorce?โ€ The word exploded from Codyโ€™s mouth, his drunkenness forgotten. โ€œWhy does she want a divorce? Is Jayden mistreating her?โ€

Pearce shrugged, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes. โ€œI canโ€™t say for sure. She hinted at things, but they didnโ€™t completely register. But as her cousin, I have to respect her wishes, wouldnโ€™t you agree?โ€

Cody needed a moment to collect his thoughts. He poured himself another drink. His mind raced, connecting the dots. Fionaโ€™s seduction and Elyseโ€™s sudden decision for a divorceโ€”the pieces seemed to fit.

Morgan, ever the pragmatist, saw things more clearly. She had long observed Elyseโ€™s unhappiness and Jaydenโ€™s immaturity. Even genuine love between two young souls could crumble without external forces. But was divorce the only answer?

She mirrored Codyโ€™s action, taking a sip of her drink to compose herself. However, Pearce wasnโ€™t there to discuss salvaging the marriage. His purpose was clear. He wanted to take Elyse away from Jayden.

โ€œI need your help,โ€ he announced, his voice resolute. โ€œI want to get Elyse out of Jaydenโ€™s house and take her back to Cambape.โ€

Morganโ€™s surprise was evident. โ€œYou want them to separate?โ€

Pearceโ€™s tone was matter-of-fact. โ€œDo you honestly believe Jayden deserves a place at Elyseโ€™s side?โ€

Cody hesitated. โ€œDivorce is a serious decision. We all know you care about Elyse, but marriage isnโ€™t a game. She canโ€™t just walk away on a whim.โ€

Pearce waved his hand dismissively. โ€œHe imprisoned her. Thatโ€™s the end of their marriage.โ€
