Moments later, Driscoll returned, beaming. “He agreed, but insists you be accompanied by bodyguards.”

Elyse reluctantly agreed. “Fine, do as he says.”

Consequently, Elyse found herself at the hospital, surrounded by four bodyguards. She positioned herself between them, her expression stoic. The inquisitive stares from others made her feel helpless, but she couldn't refuse.

Waiting for the elevator, Elyse saw a figure resembling Pearce at the hallway's end. Could it be him? A sudden intuition prompted her to say, “I need to use the restroom.”

The lead bodyguard replied, “Alright, we’ll take you.”

The restroom was conveniently in Pearce's direction.

Elyse walked at a measured pace, saw Pearce enter the restroom, and stifled her excitement, careful not to alert the bodyguards. Entering calmly, she found an unfamiliar woman.

“My name is Keely Sanchez. I’m one of Mr. Benson’s assistants. He sent me to escort you back to Cambape,” Keely said, offering her hand with a warm smile.

Elyse shook Keely’s hand, concern etched on her face. “How are you planning to get me out of here? There are four bodyguards outside.”

Keely guided Elyse to the restroom window, rolled up her sleeves, and with some effort, lifted Elyse. “Please climb out. Don’t worry, Mr. Benson’s plan is foolproof.”

Lying by the window, Elyse attempted to climb out, but lost her balance and tumbled. Just as she braced for impact, strong arms caught her.

Startled, Elyse opened her eyes to find Gavin.

“Gavin, why are you here?” Elyse asked, disbelieving.

Gavin smiled indulgently. “A man claiming to be your cousin instructed me to wait here.”

He gently lowered Elyse. She felt overwhelmed and disoriented.

Noticing her distress, Gavin reassured her. “Don’t worry. Relationships are personal. As an outsider, I won’t judge. But if you need help, I’m here.”

Elyse’s eyes reddened. “Thank you, Gavin.”

Gavin gently stroked her hair. “Don’t overthink it. If a relationship becomes impossible, it might be best to part ways. Finding the right person afterward will prove the decision correct.”

Elyse grasped his meaning. “Are you concerned for me or afraid Jayden will give up on me?”

Leaning closer, Gavin teased, “I know you’re anxious Jayden might give up on you. You fear losing your Mr. Right.”

Elyse pouted, tears welling. “Do I love him that much? Why would I fear he’d give up on me?”

Her words amused Gavin, making him laugh. “You can go now. Someone will meet you at the hospital’s back door,” he instructed.

Suppressing her emotions, Elyse said with grievance, “What about you? Won’t you come with me?”

Gavin declined. “I can’t. Irving had an accident. I need to check on him.”

Elyse stared in disbelief. “Was he seriously hurt?” . . .
