Chapter 677:

Claireโ€™s eyes widened in disbelief. She instinctively glanced at Thea, but Thea avoided her gaze.

โ€œIโ€ฆ I didnโ€™t know,โ€ Claire stammered, her face paling as her voice trailed off into a whisper.

Elyseโ€™s expression hardened. โ€œNow, do you still expect an apology from me?โ€

The intensity of Elyseโ€™s stare chilled Claire.

Seeking refuge, Claire hid behind her mother. She attempted to feign magnanimity, saying shakily, โ€œWell, since youโ€™re so pitiful, I wonโ€™t demand an apology from you.โ€

Elyse, unwilling to waste more time, turned to leave.

โ€œStop right there!โ€

Feliciaโ€™s sharp, authoritative voice rang out.

Elyse turned back. What did Felicia want?

โ€œApologize.โ€ Feliciaโ€™s eyes glinted coldly; her voice was as unforgiving as a winter storm.

Refusing to yield, Elyse met Feliciaโ€™s gaze defiantly. โ€œMiss Lipson already said she doesnโ€™t need my apology.โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s her choice. However, I believe you owe it to her. Apologize.โ€ Feliciaโ€™s tone was businesslike, her expression unreadable.

After a tense moment, Elyse said steadily, โ€œI wonโ€™t apologize. I did nothing wrong.โ€

As if expecting this, Feliciaโ€™s lips curled into a mocking smile. โ€œSuch a stubborn girl. You wonโ€™t apologize, huh? Fine. Iโ€™ll lock you in the dark room and starve you for three days.โ€

Claireโ€™s mother, feeling the punishment was too severe, interjected, โ€œForget it. Itโ€™s just a minor squabble. Thereโ€™s no need for such harsh punishment.โ€

Feliciaโ€™s gaze remained cold. โ€œEvery Benson knows actions have consequences. Elyse refuses to acknowledge her wrongdoing, so she will face double the punishment.โ€

Felicia turned to the maid. โ€œLock her up. And anyone caught sneaking her food will join her.โ€

Feliciaโ€™s words hung in the air like a death sentence as the maid approached Elyse.

Elyse struggled, but her movements aggravated her back injury, causing her to gasp.

Thea secretly reveled in Elyseโ€™s predicament, masking her satisfaction with feigned concern. โ€œGrandma, Elyse seems so defiant. Doesnโ€™t she understand sheโ€™s wrong?โ€

โ€œHmph!โ€ Felicia snorted. โ€œStarving for three days will make her see the light. I know how to handle a tough one.โ€

Thea, noting Feliciaโ€™s disdain, felt relieved.

Claireโ€™s mother, rattled, grabbed Claire and left, eager to escape.

Claire was practically dragged out, her mother shooting her an angry glare. Feeling indignant, Claire protested, โ€œMom, whatโ€™s with that look? I didnโ€™t do anything wrong!โ€

Her mother, seething, jabbed a finger at Claireโ€™s forehead. โ€œThe Bensons never mentioned Rickeyโ€™s death. How come you kept talking about him? And how did you learn Elyse was back? Even I didnโ€™t know!โ€

Claireโ€™s head hung low. . . .
