Chapter 741:

Jayden saw Elyse’s expression twist into disgust. He gently caressed her hair. “I’ll… find a different time to come over.”

Elyse reacted sharply. “You must be crazy!” she said, shoving Jayden back forcefully. She leaned against the wall, breathing unevenly.

Overcome with emotion, Elyse burst into deep sobs. “Bastard! Why must you torment me? Do you see me as a throwaway plaything?”

Elyse hid her face in her hands, weeping. Gradually, her legs gave way, and she crumpled to the floor, crying unrestrainedly.

A patron approached the restroom and paused, hearing Elyse’s cries. Initially, the patron waited, thinking Elyse would calm down. After ten minutes, however, she was still crying.

The patron summoned the staff.

David hurried over, recognizing Elyse instantly. “Elyse!” he cried, reaching for her. “My dear friend, what has upset you?”

Hearing David’s voice, Elyse raised her head. Their gazes locked. “Why are you here?” she stammered.

“I work here,” David explained, squatting beside her. “Whenever I’m not off duty, you’ll likely find me around if you come by.” Noticing her swollen, tearstained eyes, he offered her a handkerchief.

“A patron said a lady was weeping near the restroom,” David said, his eyes wide. “She said the restroom might flood, so she asked me to help.”

Elyse’s expression stiffened, and tears welled up again. She felt torn between releasing her emotions and holding them back.

David chuckled, watching Elyse try to stop crying. “Perhaps we could take our weeping session elsewhere? That lady needs to use the restroom.”

Embarrassment and distress washed over Elyse. She slowly got up, leaning on the wall.

David noticed her stiff legs. “Legs gone numb?”

Elyse nodded, tears still streaming down her cheeks.

David laughed.

Following David, she settled by the window. He brought her hot chocolate and asked, “What made you cry?”

Sniffling, Elyse told him about Jayden.

Empathy washed over David. “Your ex-husband is an absolute cad. He has no respect for you; he treats you like an object.”

Elyse nodded vigorously.

“Don’t put men on a pedestal,” David advised sincerely. “There’s no perfect man, myself included. I have flaws too.”

He paused. “But you’re different. You’re like an angel, spreading hope and happiness. Don’t let any man take away your beautiful smile.”

His words resonated with Elyse. She wiped away her tears, but sadness lingered in her voice. . . .
