Chapter 758:

โ€œYou need to take responsibility for me,โ€ Edward mumbled, blushing. Elyse was speechless. How could he say she needed to take responsibility for seeing him naked? Taking a deep breath, she replied, โ€œThe parts of you I saw arenโ€™t exactly private. How can you expect me to take responsibility for that?โ€ Edward paused thoughtfully. โ€œWhen I carried you back, I also saw your thighs. How about this: you take responsibility for me, and Iโ€™ll take responsibility for you.โ€ Elyse hurled a pillow at him, which he caught effortlessly. Grinding her teeth, she snapped, โ€œDonโ€™t be ridiculous. Why should I take responsibility for you? I didnโ€™t sleep with you, so whatโ€™s the deal?โ€ Edward shot back, โ€œIf you had slept with me, would you take responsibility?โ€ He pondered. โ€œSo, if I sleep with you, I can take responsibility for you too?โ€ Elyseโ€™s face drained of color. โ€œDonโ€™t even think about it. Iโ€™m not sleeping with you.โ€ Edward pointed to himself, a mix of confusion and annoyance in his expression. โ€œWhy wouldnโ€™t you sleep with me? With my looks and physique, is it really such a bad deal?โ€ Elyse rolled her eyes. How could his mind work this way? All she wanted was peace and quiet to mull over the previous nightโ€™s events. Why couldnโ€™t he just be silent? Throwing up her hands, she asked, โ€œDo you know where Aarya went? How did I end up in the hospital?โ€ Edward nodded. โ€œYeah, I know. I found out at the hospital yesterday. The police surrounded that club, and there was reportedly a shootout. Aaryaโ€™s probably in jail.โ€ Elyse was shocked. A shootout? Could the noise sheโ€™d heard have been gunfire? She leaned back against the bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, her thoughts tangled. Edward, meanwhile, struck various muscle-showing poses, but she didnโ€™t glance at him. Embarrassed, he found his clothes and dressed. โ€œEven if Aarya is behind bars, she should be out soon, right?โ€ Elyse asked. Edward nodded. โ€œNormally, yes, but this time, things are different.โ€ Elyse turned a curious gaze toward him. โ€œWhatโ€™s different?โ€ Edward crossed his arms. โ€œThe governor wants to tighten his grip on power, wipe out the Hudson family as local despots, and improve state security. So the Hudsons canโ€™t spring Aarya out as easily this time.โ€ Elyse stared at him. โ€œHow do you know all this?โ€ Edward froze, a flicker of panic in his eyes, before forcing a smile. โ€œIs it odd to be in the know about such things?โ€ โ€œVery odd,โ€ Elyse said, her gaze steady. โ€œHonestly, sometimes it feels like youโ€™re not just a violinist. You seem likeโ€ฆโ€ Edward felt a chill. However, Elyse couldnโ€™t quite place what he reminded her of, so she brushed it off. Just then, the hotel room doorbell chimed. . . .
