Chapter 791:
โFirst place. He pulled it off,โ the owner said with a fond chuckle. He took a cigarette from his pocket, his smile growing as he recalled, โOne night after I closed late, I saw him practicing alone in a park.โ
The shop ownerโs smile widened. Fond memories lit up his face. โI was afraid Iโd mistaken someone else for him, so I patiently waited an hour, and it turned out it was really him,โ he said delightedly.
Elyse chuckled at the amusing story.
As the owner took a deep drag from his cigarette, he remembered Elyse and Edward. โWhat can I help you with today?โ he asked warmly. โMy shop has everything you might need.โ
โYouโve finally caught on that weโre just customers,โ Edward responded teasingly, placing his items on the counter.
โAh, old age makes one nostalgic,โ the owner said, taking the items. He then asked, โAre you both violinists as well?โ
Edward nodded. โNot only that, but weโre also competitors in the Swan Cup finals,โ he said proudly.
The owner looked surprised, glancing at Elyse. โSo, who do you think will win? You or him?โ he asked curiously.
โMe, of course,โ Elyse responded confidently, smiling playfully.
The owner laughed heartily as he rang up their purchases. โI see you both have a strong sense of pride. Like father, like daughter,โ he remarked.
Elyse blushed, sheepishly scratching her head.
Outside, Edward playfully jabbed, โDonโt even dream of first place. That title will be mine.โ
Elyse scoffed. โWeโll just have to see at the finals,โ she countered playfully.
Edward chuckled, scratching his nose. Eager to win Elyseโs affection, he wouldnโt yield in the competition. He planned to wait until after the tournament to make his move.
As Edwardโs attention drifted, Elyse saw Jayden and Aarya, flanked by two imposing bodyguards.
Fury and disgust washed over Elyse at the sight of Aarya. She clutched Edwardโs arm, trying to leave, but Aarya noticed.
โElyse!โ Aaryaโs voice cut through the air. Elyse stopped, her back to Aarya, who gestured for her bodyguard to block Elyseโs path.
Elyse glanced at the bodyguard before fixing her eyes on Aarya. โI donโt recall us being on friendly terms,โ she said impassively.
โOh, come on, Elyse.โ Aarya, aware of Elyseโs resentment, adopted an innocent tone. โSure, Iโve made some mistakes, but look, youโre still here, arenโt you?โ she said, pouting.
Elyseโs anger flared. โI nearly died because of you! Do you expect me to just smile and move on? Who do you think you are?โ she retorted sharply.
