“It’s nothing to worry about. Don’t dwell on it. I’ll take care of this quickly and be right back,” Jayden replied casually. He left swiftly.

As Jayden disappeared, Elyse was overwhelmed by conflicting feelings. Memories of countless times Jayden had dismissed her with those same empty assurances flooded her mind. He’d promised to be open with her, yet repeatedly chose to keep his secrets.

Elyse struggled to find any justification for his behavior other than deep-seated mistrust. If Jayden couldn’t trust her, who did he confide in? Aarya?

Edward noticed Elyse’s discomfort. He knelt beside her and gently asked, as if coaxing a child, “Are you upset your ex-husband cares about someone else?”

Elyse looked away, her voice tinged with irritation. “Why would I be? Isn’t that natural?”

“It is, but I don’t want to see you unhappy. Perhaps you could give me a chance to bring some joy back into your life. What do you think?” Edward asked, his eyes hopeful.

Elyse sighed, crossing her arms defensively. “Edward, don’t waste your energy. I’m not ready for a relationship, and I don’t want to use you.”

Smiling genuinely, Edward replied, “I understand your hesitation. But as I said, I’m fine being your emotional bandage, even if you heal and move on.”

Despite her resolve, Elyse was moved by his sincerity. “Why are you so humble? You could easily find someone better.”

Edward straightened, raising an eyebrow. “I believe you’re the best choice for me, and that’s what matters. As for being humble, I don’t think so. I’m a bigger man—handsome, too.”

Elyse chuckled. “You are rather handsome, yes.”

“See? I knew it! Especially with this fearless pursuit of love, nothing can stop me!” Edward grinned. He started to unbutton his shirt, but Elyse stopped him.

With a teasing glance, Edward said, “You’re single, so why not give me a shot? I’d be honored to be your rebound, even if it leads nowhere.”

Elyse hesitated, uncertainty crossing her face. After a moment, she sighed. “Alright, I’ll think about it.”

A beaming smile lit up Edward’s face. He gripped her shoulders. “You said it! You’re considering me! No other guys allowed!”

Feeling overwhelmed, Elyse covered her face. “I heard you! Stop it!”

Realizing his overzealous reaction, Edward calmed down. “Okay, okay,” he said, composing himself. “I got carried away. Sorry.”
