Chapter 867:

Ignoring the displeased looks of the young men, Irving led Elyse away. Feeling a bit uncomfortable, Elyse asked nervously, โ€œIrving, who were they? Isnโ€™t it rude to dismiss them like that?โ€

Irving snorted. โ€œIโ€™ve seen those types around. They frequent these events and target young ladies. Do you really think their compliments were sincere? They were just making advances.โ€

As they continued walking, Irving stopped suddenly and said seriously to Elyse, โ€œMen can be trouble. Donโ€™t let a few kind words cloud your judgment. They often donโ€™t mean them.โ€

Elyse agreed but teased, โ€œBut Irving, youโ€™re a man too. Arenโ€™t you also criticizing yourself?โ€

Irving pointed to himself and replied with a grin, โ€œYes, I am, but I keep my urges in check. Thatโ€™s what makes me special.โ€

Elyse chuckled at his comment, and they kept walking. Irving took Elyse to a secluded booth and greeted Cody. Cody turned around, stood up, and warmly said to Elyse, โ€œCongratulations on your first-place win. Youโ€™ve worked hard these past months, and it shows.โ€

With Codyโ€™s direct praise, Elyse blushed slightly. โ€œThank you, Mr. Tucker. The extra practice really helped. I couldnโ€™t have succeeded without everyoneโ€™s support.โ€

โ€œOh, youโ€™re quite the charmer, unlike my stubborn apprentice who only knows how to upset me,โ€ the middle-aged man next to Cody chuckled as he stood and offered his hand with a smile. โ€œIโ€™m Simon, a friend of your mentor. Itโ€™s a pleasure to meet you.โ€

Elyse shook his hand and replied shyly, โ€œNice to meet you. Iโ€™m Elyse, Mr. Tuckerโ€™s student.โ€

Simon smiled and teased, โ€œI know. Heโ€™s talked about you before.โ€ Elyse quickly looked at Cody. Did he often speak of her?

Simon, slightly envious, continued, โ€œHeโ€™s been boasting about having a prodigiously talented student. He predicted youโ€™d beat my student in the next contest and take first place.โ€ Simon glared at Cody and said, โ€œAnd he was right. I should have stopped him from bragging.โ€

Cody laughed heartily, clearly pleased. โ€œIโ€™ve always said my student could outperform your unruly one. And now, sheโ€™s won first place, while your student came second. Itโ€™s a nice reality check for him.โ€

Simon, feeling indignant, gritted his teeth, unwilling to accept that his apprentice was lesser than Elyse.

After listening for a while, Elyse asked, puzzled, โ€œWho is your student? Should I know him?โ€

Cody seemed surprised and asked, โ€œYou donโ€™t know who his student is? Havenโ€™t you two been practicing together?โ€

Elyseโ€™s confusion deepened, and she turned to Simon for an explanation. Simon cleared his throat and said in a gentle tone, โ€œEdward. How did you not know that?โ€

โ€œEdward?โ€ Elyse was taken aback. โ€œNo one ever informed me he was your apprentice.โ€

Irving lightly tapped Elyse on the head and said helplessly, โ€œWho told you that you werenโ€™t informed? Didnโ€™t Gavin ever mention it?โ€ . . .
