Chapter 892:
Holding the cigarette, Brookโs initial urge to smoke faded. He retorted, โDidnโt I tell you to stay put on Jaydenโs turf? Why did you leave?โ
Elyse replied with a forced smile, โA killerโs invaded Jaydenโs territory. Was I supposed to stay in the villa and get killed?โ
Brook was silent for what felt like an eternity, leaving Elyse wondering if he would release her.
But suddenly, Brook pulled a gun from his pocket and aimed it at the maid. His voice was firm. โGet in the car quietly, or Iโll shoot. Two lives will be lost. Consider your options carefully.โ
Rigid with shock and anger, the maid snapped, โDespicable! Ms. Lloyd, even if it costs my life, Iโll ensure your escape.โ
Overhearing this, Elyse sighed deeply. Gently touching the maidโs shoulder, she said with resignation, โPlease, letโs not talk of dying. Itโs too grim. You shouldnโt sacrifice your life for me; itโs yours.โ Turning to Brook, she pleaded, โPlease, donโt shoot. Iโll come with you.โ
Brook gestured toward the vehicle. โGet in first!โ
The maid looked at Elyse with wide, disbelieving eyes. โMs. Lloyd, you mustnโt go with him. Heโs untrustworthy.โ
Ignoring the maidโs plea, Elyse pressed Brook. โIf I leave with you, will you assure me the gardener wonโt harm anyone?โ
โSorry. Heโs an assassin hired by the Hudsons. I donโt know his orders, nor can I countermand them,โ Brook confessed, holding open the passenger door. With a grave tone, he insisted, โGet inside. Youโll be safe with me.โ
Elyse paused briefly before accepting the inevitable and headed toward Brookโs vehicle.
The maid didnโt want Elyse to leave with Brook; she knew of his connection to Enzo, who had already caused Elyse to lose a child. The maid dreaded what might happen if Brook took Elyse away.
Clutching Elyseโs hand, she said weakly, โIf anything happens to you, Mr. Jayden Owen wonโt survive it.โ
Elyse found this amusing. โThatโs quite an exaggeration.โ
Shaking her head, the maid persisted, โI mean it. After your divorce, he lost his spark and was in a sour mood for months. Even Driscoll said he seemed like a walking dead.โ
Hearing this, Elyse felt a surge of emotions. She hadnโt known Jaydenโs condition post-divorce and assumed heโd been happy.
With a faint sigh, she gently freed her hand and said reluctantly, โHe has a gun. If we resist, weโre both dead. He wonโt hesitate.โ
