Chapter 916:
Edward hesitated, then said with dissatisfaction, โNow that the Hudson family issue is settled, you should release Elyse. Remember our wager. Youโre not reneging on our deal, are you?โ
Jayden shook his head. โI donโt break deals. While you may think the Hudson family matter is concluded and Elyse is safe, I disagree. The issue isnโt resolved to my satisfaction, and Elyse isnโt safe yet. Therefore, I canโt release her.โ
Edward grew frustrated. โElyse is her own person. You canโt keep her confined. Sheโs a living, breathing individual.โ
โI havenโt forgotten. Even if I wanted to confine her, I wouldnโt.โ Jayden knew better than to imprison Elyse again. To keep her close, he needed to be more subtle.
Watching Jayden, Edward scoffed. โYou donโt really think this ends with you and Elyse living happily ever after, do you?โ
Jayden replied, โI know youโve always coveted my girl, but Elyse is mine.โ
Edward smirked. โOh? Weโll see.โ
The following morning, in a deserted town, Brook learned of the news and arrived to search for Charlieโs remains. Brook and his crew searched the area and discovered Charlieโs body near a town fountain. Beside him lay his daughter Aaryaโs severed head.
Brook turned away in revulsion and called Enzo. Enzo hadnโt heard from Charlie the previous day and felt uneasy when he saw Brookโs call.
When he answered, he received troubling news. Brookโs report was blunt: โCharlie is dead, along with most of his men. The operation took place yesterday. The remaining men fled or joined other factions.โ
He paused, then added, โThe Hudson family no longer exists.โ
Enzo sighed. โI underestimated this. I shouldnโt have sent only Charlie. Heโs past his primeโฆ Heโs not as sharp as Jayden.โ
Brook waited for Enzoโs instructions.
โWhereโs Elyse?โ Enzo asked. โIs she with you?โ
Brook replied, โRory Griffin took her yesterday. I havenโt heard anything since. I donโt know if sheโs alive.โ
