Chapter 919:

Since Brook took her phone, Elyse had been completely disconnected from the online world. Only she understood her deep yearning to reconnect and browse the internet freely.

When Jayden finished his work, he saw Elyse deeply absorbed in her game. He decided he needed to hurry and retrieve her phone. It was also time to visit Brook. Lately, Jayden found it increasingly difficult to predict Brook's plans.

โ€œKeep playing. I need to step out for a while, but Iโ€™ll be back soon,โ€ Jayden said, rising and reaching for his jacket.

Elyse looked up, annoyed. โ€œArenโ€™t we supposed to eat? At least have something before you leave.โ€

โ€œIโ€™ll pick up your favorite cheese fries and a beef burger on my way back,โ€ Jayden replied.

Elyse pondered for a moment and nodded. โ€œAlright, go ahead. Just make sure you come back quickly.โ€

Jayden chuckled softly, holding back a wave of affection, then slipped on his jacket and left.

Jayden used a second phone to message Brook, arranging a meeting. Brook, anticipating Jayden's contact, waited in a secluded restaurant booth. Jayden found Brook already sipping whiskey.

โ€œWhiskey in the middle of the day? You really know how to live it up,โ€ Jayden said, removing his jacket and accepting Brookโ€™s offered drink.

With a slight smile and unreadable eyes, Brook poured Jayden a drink. โ€œItโ€™s been too long since we shared a drink. With Charlie gone, we should celebrate that.โ€

Jayden raised an eyebrow. โ€œCharlieโ€™s gone and youโ€™re celebrating? Shouldnโ€™t you and Enzo be more troubled?โ€

Brook noted the undertone but didnโ€™t elaborate. โ€œIndeed, I should be upset. But Iโ€™d rather have a drink with you, Jayden. Congratulations are in order.โ€

Jayden was puzzled by Brookโ€™s demeanor and words. After taking a sip of whiskey, he asked, โ€œHow much have you drunk to be this tipsy already?โ€

Lifting his head, Brook leaned against the sofa cushion. His emotions were unreadable. After a moment, he said slowly, โ€œProbably too much. Iโ€™ve been exhausted lately and got drunk easily.โ€

โ€œUseless! Youโ€™ve been overwhelmed by such a small amount of pressure.โ€ . . .
