Chapter 922:
“Sweetie, have you been waiting long?” Corrie’s overly sweet voice called out, waving to Brook. She gave her luggage to the bodyguard and clung to Brook’s arm, whining, “Darling, I’ve missed you so much! Did you miss me?”
Brook pulled away, a flicker of annoyance in his eyes. He scoffed. “My grandfather isn’t here. There’s no need to play the perfect girlfriend. It’s repulsive.”
Dropping her act, Corrie folded her arms. “What’s gotten into you? Your grandfather asked you to help the Hudsons, and they ended up dead. Is that your idea of help?”
Brook chuckled dismissively. “If you think you can do better, go ahead. I’m taking a break.”
Corrie retorted, “Fine! I’ll handle it. You’re useless. You can’t even complete a simple job.” It was merely a kidnapping; Corrie was confident she could manage it. She’d successfully completed several tasks for Enzo, earning his commendation and substantial rewards. Her ambition had grown; she now looked down on Jayden. Despite Jayden’s seeming invincibility, she believed she could surpass him.
Brook saw through Corrie’s overconfidence and greed, fostered by Enzo. “I’m going back to the hotel. Stay here if you like.” He was indifferent to her plans.
Corrie, wary that Brook might steal her achievements, accompanied him nonetheless.
That evening, Jayden arrived home, presenting Elyse with her food and phone. Elyse accepted them cheerfully, but her expression turned puzzled when she saw her phone. “You met with Brook? He gave back the phone that easily?”
Jayden nodded nonchalantly. “It’s just a phone. No reason to withhold it.” He cautioned, “Stay indoors. Corrie just arrived, and you’re likely her target.”
Elyse hadn’t heard that name in a long time. “Why is she targeting me? I haven’t done anything to her.”
Jayden patted her shoulder. “You’re my wife. Who else would they target?” Elyse’s face fell. “Why are they after you again?”
“They’ve always been after me. But I’m still here,” Jayden said with a confident smirk.
