Theo paused, gathering his thoughts. โI recommend you not go anywhere alone. You might already be under surveillance,โ he advised.
Elyse shivered, bowing her head and glancing around warily. โThere arenโt any snipers, are there?โ she asked hesitantly.
โNo, there wonโt be,โ Theo reassured her. โThe person who wants you insists on your safety. Those who might try to take you will only focus on capturing you, so donโt stress about that.โ
Elyse managed a half-smile. The clientโs unusual considerationโnot wanting her harmedโwas puzzling. Yet, she couldnโt shake the question of why they wanted to abduct her.
Lost in thought, Elyse remained seated.
Checking his watch, Theo said, โSorry, I have another meeting soon, so I need to leave.โ
โAlright, you should go,โ Elyse replied, looking up.
โOh, by the way, have you seen Kaelyn lately?โ Theo added, as if a thought had just struck him.
Elyse shook her head. โI havenโt seen Kaelyn, but I bumped into Mabel recently. Sheโs completely smitten.โ She winked playfully. โAny opinions on Mabelโs romantic escapades?โ
Theo quirked an eyebrow. โWhatโs there to say? I wish her all the best.โ
Elyse dropped her teasing demeanor, waving him off. โGo on, then. Donโt be late.โ
Theo left quickly, mindful of his schedule.
As he departed the cafรฉ, a sudden insight struck him. His investigation into Kaelyn had revealed a connection between her and Mabel. Had Mabel followed Kaelyn overseas? This sparked a new line of inquiry.
He had been trying to locate Kaelyn for some time, always hitting dead ends. The more he delved into her background, the more enigmatic she became. Much of her past was composed of fictitious details.
These deceptive trails made it impossible to determine her origins or current whereabouts. She seemed to vanish like a ghost.
Yet, deep down, Theo was certain she was no ghost. . . .
