Chapter 170
Anya didn't expect Roseanne's immediate reunion with Julian. Rosalie, however, had no intention of creating a scene. "What's the point of asserting my position as the legitimate wife?" she mused. "A wife Julian despises, showing off in front of his beloved ex-girlfriend? Isn't that just asking for humiliation?"
Julian would likely embarrass her before his ex-girlfriend, a prospect Rosalie wanted no part of. More importantly, she refused to share the same air as Julian, even for a moment. "No, Anya, I really have an urgent appointment," Rosalie excused, glancing at her watch. "The agreed time is up. I have to go."
Rosalie ignored Anya's calls, exiting the bar. On the other side, Julian's hand clenched into a fist upon hearing Anya had been summoned. The thought of Rosalie's arrival sent his already irritable heart racing with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety.
He watched Rosalie and Anya rise, believing they were approaching. Instead, he saw Rosalie speak to Anya, who then hurriedly left the bar. Julian's hopeful expression instantly darkened, becoming even more sour.
Roseanne, anticipating Rosalie's arrival and unsettled by Julian's strange behavior, had been mentally preparing for a confrontation. Rosalie's departure left Roseanne unsure whether to feel relieved or disappointed, though her hostility remained undiminished.
Anya approached with a displeased expression. Roseanne quickly masked her own fierce look, rose from her seat, and warmly greeted Anya. "Anya, it's been so long. I've missed you so much," Roseanne said, reaching for a hug, only to be skillfully avoided by Anya.
