Chapter 84
After a pause, Rosalie continued, “If you don’t fall for me, why do you insist on having some so-called marital interaction with me?”
Sevres gleamed with amusement, but a sharp edge remained unmistakable.
Julian’s jaw clenched. “Rosalie, that’s the worst joke I’ve ever heard. You sound less like a comedian and more like a desperate clown, putting on a show for attention.” Her provocations had finally gotten under his skin.
He scowled, furious at himself for even feeling guilty about her mentioning him falling for her. “A clown! Putting on a show for attention!” Rosalie repeated his words in her mind. Her gaze hardened, a trace of self-mockery flickering within.
She thought, “So that’s what I’ve been to him all this time, huh? A clown to pass the time. No wonder in my last life, when I got into that accident, he didn’t even care enough to ask if I was alive. The only thing he was willing to do was generously wait around to ensure my body was collected.”
Julian didn’t notice the shift in her emotions. Seeing her suddenly quiet, he assumed she was scheming.
He was about to speak when Rosalie chuckled. “Oh, so it’s not feelings, huh? Then I guess it’s just… your rut, right?”
She clicked her tongue and smirked. “Spring isn’t even here yet. Julian, I really didn’t expect you to have your rut now.”
Julian’s expression grew stormy. Rosalie had demonstrated her sharp tongue that day.
He barked, “Rosalie, you—”
Before he could finish, the sound of incoming messages chimed from his nearby phone.
Probably seeking distraction from the frustration she’d caused, Julian glanced at the screen. His eyes darkened slightly, his expression remaining unreadable. Without a word, he pocketed his phone.
Julian decided there was no point in arguing with Rosalie anymore. He knew she might not win, and despite her infuriating him, he wouldn't take advantage of her.
