Chapter 140
Calliope glanced up slightly.
That was when Verity leaned in, โCallie, come on. Letโs go see whatโs happening!โ
Having just finished her game, Calliope let Dahlia and Calista continue and followed Verity outside.
In a corner of the garden, Fleur gave Yvette a good telling-off.
โDonโt think I donโt know what youโre up to! You shouldnโt even dream of marrying Gideon. Do you think youโre worthy?โ
โBut since Gideon is so infatuated with you, I canโt ruin the relationship between my son and me because of you.โ
โYvette, let me warn you. Even if you become Gideonโs wife, I wonโt accept you. Iโll keep introducing better women to Gideon.โ
โSo, I hope you know your place. If youโre smart, you wonโt bring up marriage. Of course, you can refuse to back out, but trust me, Gideon wonโt stick with you till the end. I know my son very well.โ
โAnd if you insist on marrying him, youโd better behave after the wedding. Stay out of Gideonโs affairs.โ
Fleur unleashed a torrent of words on Yvette.
Verity leaned closer to Calliope, whispering, โYvetteโs in for a rough time.โ
Calliope didnโt respond. Fleur had said similar things to her once. But Fleur hadnโt dared to go too far with Eamon backing Calliope. Yvetteโs future looked bleak. She had no support and no one to stand by her. If Gideon protected her, that would be one thing. But if he didnโt, her life could become even harder.
After watching for a moment, Calliope turned away.
Still intrigued, Verity continued to watch the scene unfold.
โCallie-โ
Calliope hadnโt reached the door before Gideon blocked her path.
She looked up at him, โGot a bit of memory loss, Gideon? Being so rude to your elder?โ
Gideon frowned. โCallie, Iโm getting married.โ
โIโm not deaf. Not only do I know youโre getting married, but I also know the date. No need to remind me. Donโt worry. As your aunt, Iโll remember all the formalities. I donโt forget as easily as you do.โ Her expression was eerily calm.
Gideon stared at her, feeling like something was missing inside. โDoesnโt it bother you?โ
โBother me? Your wedding?โ Calliope smirked, โSure, it does. Iโm quite happy for you. Just remember what Eamon told you. Donโt leave me holding the bag for everything. Explain yourself properly.โ
โAre youโฆ are you and Uncle Silas getting along well?โ He clenched his jaw.
โIn which way?โ Calliope mused, โBut in any way, Silas is quite strong. Weโre harmonious and happy.โ
Gideonโs face darkened.
โOh, by the way, you better go protect your precious fiancรฉe. You know what Fleurโs like. If your bride starts crying, youโll be heartbroken, wonโt you?โ
Calliope sidestepped Gideon and headed back inside.
Gideon stood under the moonlight, motionless. He could sense itโshe really didnโt care about him anymore. A strange mix of awkwardness and frustration filled him, making him feel stifled and uncomfortable.
Well, if she didnโt care, let it be. He and Yvette would be just fine. She and his uncle might not be, and sheโd regret choosing his uncle someday.
