Chapter 17

At the breakfast table, Calliope glanced at Silas, words hanging on the tip of her tongue.

โ€œIf youโ€™ve got something to say, just say it. I donโ€™t bite,โ€ Silas remarked, his eyes lifting slightly with a hint of mischief. โ€œTreat me like you would anyone else.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s not that Iโ€™m afraid of youโ€ฆโ€ Calliope raised her head. โ€œItโ€™s justโ€”Iโ€™m not quite used to it yet.โ€

โ€œYouโ€™ll get used to it in time,โ€ Silas assured her. โ€œLetโ€™s have breakfast first. Afterward, Iโ€™ll introduce you to a few people.โ€

โ€œOkay,โ€ Calliope mumbled, focusing on her breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup.

Silas watched her with a gentle patience, a slight smile playing on his lips.

He would help her adjust. Slowly but surely, she would come to know him better. This time, he wouldnโ€™t let her slip away.

After breakfast, Calliope was led out to the courtyard outside the main house. To her surprise, she found a group of people already gathered there.

โ€œMorning, maโ€™am!โ€

Calliope froze. She had heard whispers about the people who resided in Myers Manorโ€”expert hackers, lethal martial artists, and fiercely loyal subordinates who had been with Silas for years.

She had assumed these people were part of Silasโ€™s secret world, and she never expected him to introduce her to them so openly.

โ€œGo ahead, introduce yourselves to the lady,โ€ Silas instructed, his gaze sweeping over the assembled group.

โ€œGood day, maโ€™am. Iโ€™m Damien, head of security. These men behind me make up our bodyguard team,โ€ Damien spoke up first.

Calliopeโ€™s gaze flicked to the squad standing at attention, each one looked battle-hardened, their presence exuding raw capability.

โ€œDamien is a former world martial arts champion,โ€ Silas added. โ€œHis combat skills and marksmanship are second to none. He oversees the security of Myers Manor and ensures my safety. All the bodyguards are under his command. If you need anything, just let him know.โ€

โ€œMaโ€™am, Iโ€™m York, a hacker, and not to brag, but Iโ€™m the best in the business. Iโ€™ve been working with Mr. Myers for a while now. If you run into any tech troubles, feel free to ask me,โ€ York introduced himself, standing next to Damien.

โ€œGood day, maโ€™am. Iโ€™m Galen, a general practitioner. I can handle most medical concerns you might have. If you ever feel under the weather, Iโ€™m here to help.โ€

Silas glanced at Galen and interjected, โ€œShe wonโ€™t be needing you.โ€

Calliope shot Silas a curious look.

What did he mean by that?

Not many knew she was the last apprentice of a legendary healer, and ever since that incident, she hadnโ€™t practiced medicine.

How could Silas possibly be aware of this?

One by one, Silasโ€™s team introduced themselves. They were all top-tier experts in their fields.

Calliope didnโ€™t mind getting to know them. She figured there might be opportunities to learn from each other.

After the introductions, they exchanged contact information.

โ€œAlright, you can all go now,โ€ Silas said, ushering them away.

โ€œTheyโ€™re all at your disposal. Your command is as good as mine, and theyโ€™ll follow your lead.โ€

โ€œUhโ€ฆ thanks,โ€ Calliope stammered, not quite sure what to say.

โ€œThereโ€™s no need to be so formal with me,โ€ Silas said softly. โ€œYouโ€™re my wife now, and Iโ€™ll make sure to take good care of you.โ€

Calliope looked up at Silas, her eyes meeting his.
