Chapter 17
At the breakfast table, Calliope glanced at Silas, words hanging on the tip of her tongue.
โIf youโve got something to say, just say it. I donโt bite,โ Silas remarked, his eyes lifting slightly with a hint of mischief. โTreat me like you would anyone else.โ
โItโs not that Iโm afraid of youโฆโ Calliope raised her head. โItโs justโIโm not quite used to it yet.โ
โYouโll get used to it in time,โ Silas assured her. โLetโs have breakfast first. Afterward, Iโll introduce you to a few people.โ
โOkay,โ Calliope mumbled, focusing on her breakfast of pancakes and maple syrup.
Silas watched her with a gentle patience, a slight smile playing on his lips.
He would help her adjust. Slowly but surely, she would come to know him better. This time, he wouldnโt let her slip away.
After breakfast, Calliope was led out to the courtyard outside the main house. To her surprise, she found a group of people already gathered there.
โMorning, maโam!โ
Calliope froze. She had heard whispers about the people who resided in Myers Manorโexpert hackers, lethal martial artists, and fiercely loyal subordinates who had been with Silas for years.
She had assumed these people were part of Silasโs secret world, and she never expected him to introduce her to them so openly.
โGo ahead, introduce yourselves to the lady,โ Silas instructed, his gaze sweeping over the assembled group.
โGood day, maโam. Iโm Damien, head of security. These men behind me make up our bodyguard team,โ Damien spoke up first.
Calliopeโs gaze flicked to the squad standing at attention, each one looked battle-hardened, their presence exuding raw capability.
โDamien is a former world martial arts champion,โ Silas added. โHis combat skills and marksmanship are second to none. He oversees the security of Myers Manor and ensures my safety. All the bodyguards are under his command. If you need anything, just let him know.โ
โMaโam, Iโm York, a hacker, and not to brag, but Iโm the best in the business. Iโve been working with Mr. Myers for a while now. If you run into any tech troubles, feel free to ask me,โ York introduced himself, standing next to Damien.
โGood day, maโam. Iโm Galen, a general practitioner. I can handle most medical concerns you might have. If you ever feel under the weather, Iโm here to help.โ
Silas glanced at Galen and interjected, โShe wonโt be needing you.โ
Calliope shot Silas a curious look.
What did he mean by that?
Not many knew she was the last apprentice of a legendary healer, and ever since that incident, she hadnโt practiced medicine.
How could Silas possibly be aware of this?
One by one, Silasโs team introduced themselves. They were all top-tier experts in their fields.
Calliope didnโt mind getting to know them. She figured there might be opportunities to learn from each other.
After the introductions, they exchanged contact information.
โAlright, you can all go now,โ Silas said, ushering them away.
โTheyโre all at your disposal. Your command is as good as mine, and theyโll follow your lead.โ
โUhโฆ thanks,โ Calliope stammered, not quite sure what to say.
โThereโs no need to be so formal with me,โ Silas said softly. โYouโre my wife now, and Iโll make sure to take good care of you.โ
Calliope looked up at Silas, her eyes meeting his.
