Chapter 192
Gideon stood there, not saying a word, his eyes fixed on Calliope like he was trying to see through her. But Calliope couldnโt care less about what Gideon thought.
โIโm not in the mood for drinks anymore. How about we head back?โ Calliope suggested to Portia.
โSounds good to me. What a buzzkill,โ Portia replied, scrunching her nose in annoyance. She grabbed her purse, casting a deliberate glare Gideonโs way.
Gideon frowned, his expression a mix of confusion and frustration as he watched Calliope. He wondered, โWhat can Callie have that I donโt know about? Is Portia trying to mess with me? Calliope isnโt a woman of mystery. What kind of skills could she hide?โ
The thought irked Gideon, but then he shook it off. Theyโd been friends for ages. There were no secrets between them.
That little stunt with hacking into the surveillance? Probably it was just something she picked up somewhere, nothing too impressive.
Meanwhile, Lisette and her brothers had been waiting for the moment when Calliope would be carted off by the police. Surely, if she was taken away, sheโd come begging them to testify on her behalf.
But to their surprise, Calliope had sorted everything out within minutes. The couple causing trouble got escorted away by the cops, and she walked out without a scratch. Sheโd even managed to access the surveillance footage from her phone.
Ulysses and his group were left feeling a mix of disbelief and something else they couldnโt quite put their finger on. They never thought Calliope had it in her.
โWow, sheโs got some skills. Wonder where she picked that up,โ Lisette commented, a smile on her face but her eyes cold as ice.
โJust a fluke,โ Ulysses scoffed, refusing to acknowledge any real talent in Calliope.
โIf she had any real talent, weโd know about it,โ Valerian added with a sneer.
As they gossiped amongst themselves, Calliope waved goodbye to Portia and made her way over to them.
They exchanged looks, surprised that Calliope was heading their way.
Lisette was stunned, too. She quickly said, โCallie, are you regretting leaving the Jewell family already? No matter what, youโre still their sister by blood. You guys shouldnโt hold a grudge because she once said she wanted out of the family. Sure, she might not know much and sometimes cause trouble for the family and the companyโฆ People may call her useless, but sheโs still a Jewell, right?โ
โShe wanted out, remember? Does she dare to come back now?โ Ulysses said, his tone icy.
โWeโd never take her back, even if she begged!โ Valerian added with disdain.
โShe thought she was too good for the Jewell family. Letโs see if she can manage on her own,โ Horatio said, glancing at Calliope with a smirk.
The three of them were still annoyed about Calliopeโs declaration at the party to cut ties with the Jewell family. If she wanted to sever ties, sheโd better stick to it and never come crawling back.
Calliope stopped in front of the four.
โWhat do you want?โ Ulysses asked, looking up at her. โRegretting your impulsive decisions? You should think things through before you act, or be ready to face the consequences.โ
โCalliope, if youโre thinking of coming back, Iโm seriously disappointed in you,โ Valerian mocked.
Calliope swept her gaze over the trio, unfazed. โDream on. I finally managed to cut ties with you. Why on earth would I come crawling back?โ
