Chapter 198

But deep down, Horatio knew his legs were acting up again. At first, he thought his imagination might be playing tricks on him, but as the sensation grew stronger each time, he realized it was neither a figment of his imagination nor just a mental issue.

โ€œLisette, come check on Horatio. His legs suddenly gave out,โ€ Valerian urgently called out to Lisette.

Zelda and Lisette were enjoying apple pies when they heard him.

Zelda looked up abruptly. โ€œWhat do you mean? How come Horatioโ€™s legs just stopped working?โ€

โ€œI donโ€™t know. A moment ago, Horatio couldnโ€™t stand,โ€ Valerian frowned.

Horatio had made his way to Lisette, looking at her earnestly. โ€œYou said my legs wouldnโ€™t have any issues, right? And youโ€™d have a way to fix it if something did happen, right?โ€

Lisetteโ€™s face showed a hint of embarrassment. She had indeed said that, but in truth, she had no idea how to treat it.

Horatioโ€™s legs werenโ€™t her doing in the first place. She had just been bluffing her way through this, but she couldnโ€™t possibly admit that.

Lisette furrowed her brow, pretending to check Horatioโ€™s pulse. Then she said, โ€œI canโ€™t see anything wrong. Horatio, what are you feeling?โ€

โ€œRight now, I feel fine, but a moment ago, I couldnโ€™t stand. My legs were completely numb. Itโ€™s not just now. Itโ€™s happened several times before but usually only lasts a few minutes. This time, it lasted the longest, and I feel like the numbness is lasting longer each time. Iโ€™m worried that if this keeps up, I might end up like beforeโ€”unable to stand at all.โ€

โ€œThat canโ€™t be!โ€ Zelda said with deep concern. โ€œYour legs were fine! How could you not stand again?โ€

โ€œI really do feel that way,โ€ Horatio said, watching Lisette hopefully. He was hoping sheโ€™d have a solution.

Lisette shook her head, looking innocent. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Horatio. I canโ€™t find anything wrong. I saved you back then just by sheer luck.โ€

โ€œLisette-โ€ Horatioโ€™s heart sank.

If Lisette couldnโ€™t help, then who could?

โ€œBut donโ€™t worry, Horatio. I know of a healer whoโ€™s incredibly skilled,โ€ Lisette said. โ€œThis healer has been out of sight for a while, but I recently heard the healer might make a comeback. If we can find this healer, fixing your legs would be a piece of cake! No matter what it takes, Iโ€™ll find this healer for you! Horatio, donโ€™t be afraid. I will help you!โ€

Touched by Lisetteโ€™s resolute look, Horatio said, โ€œThank you, Lisette. With you around, I feel much more at ease!โ€

Lisette grasped Horatioโ€™s hand. โ€œYouโ€™re my brother. Youโ€™ve always been so good to me. Itโ€™s only right that I do the same for you!โ€

After exchanging a few words, Lisette suddenly asked, โ€œBy the way, guys, didnโ€™t you go check out the gifts Callie sent you? How were they?โ€

The three brothers exchanged a look, a mix of emotions passing between them.

โ€œMom, have you given Calliope much money?โ€ Ulysses asked.

โ€œNo, why would I give her money? Whatโ€™s going on?โ€ Zelda was puzzled.

She always thought Calliope would just get into trouble with money, so sheโ€™d give Lisette a decent allowance but rarely gave Calliope any.

โ€œShe sent us gifts more extravagant than the last,โ€ Ulysses admitted, albeit reluctantly.

โ€œWhere did she get the money?โ€ Zelda was surprised.

โ€œThatโ€™s what weโ€™re wondering, so weโ€™re asking you,โ€ Valerian frowned.

โ€œCould it be-โ€ Lisette exclaimed suddenly.

Please let us know if you find any errors, so we can fix them.
