Chapter 208
Kelda was tidying up, her mind spinning with disbelief. Silas had been into Calliope for a while now? Why her, of all people? But if Silas liked her, who could really stop him? Kelda had been by Silasโs side for so long, and he always saw her as just a kid. Yet, Calliope, someone elseโs girlfriend, had somehow caught Silasโs fancy. Kelda muttered under her breath, frustration bubbling up inside her.
Meanwhile, everyone in the conference room was shocked as Calliope entered. Silas introduced Calliope to the group, announcing she was his wife and that everyone should heed her words.
The room fell silent. No one dared to speak at first. Then, the room erupted into chatter.
โMr. Myers, we thought your marriage would only be a temporary thing, a game. Did you need to introduce her to us?โ
โYeah, Mr. Myers, we didnโt need to meet her. Arenโt you two going to part ways soon?โ
โShe doesnโt understand our business. Heard she turned the Jewell Group into a mess. I think she should stay away from here!โ
โExactly, running a company isnโt for just anyone.โ
Whispers and murmurs filled the room. No one had expected Silas to bring Calliope before them, let alone give her such importance. And he wanted everyone to follow Calliopeโs lead as if her words were his own. If Calliope messed things up, wouldnโt that throw the whole company into chaos? A woman with no business acumen had no place here; sheโd only be a liability.
Many of the higher-ups had heard rumors about Calliope and were quite disdainful of her presence. Mr. Myers might owe her a favor, but they certainly didnโt. Why should they be dragged into this?
โYou donโt think much of her?โ Silasโs smile vanished, replaced by a dangerous glint in his eyes.
The room fell silent again.
Sensing Silas on the verge of losing his temper, Calliope gently pulled him back. With a smile, she addressed everyone, โThereโs no need to worry. I donโt know much about business and have no interest in running the company. Silas just wanted to introduce me. I wonโt be issuing orders like he does!โ
โYou donโt need to know anything to be in charge,โ Silas replied, glancing at Calliope. โBesides, I know you can do it!โ
Calliope let out a nervous laugh. โI have no time for that. I prefer to take it easy!โ
The group exchanged glances, now even more disappointed. They had hoped Calliope would at least try to prove herself, but she outright admitted she wasnโt up to the task and preferred to slack off. She really didnโt seem to match Mr. Myers. How could a genius like Mr. Myers choose someone like her as a wife?
