Chapter 212
Even though Yvette was sweet and caring, she paled in comparison when Calliope was in the picture.
Gideon found himself exhausted being around Yvette lately. He used to adore her, but now he grew more annoyed with her; the thought of marrying her filled him with unease.
Yet, he felt trapped. The wedding was imminent, and backing out now would not only turn him into the laughingstock of all Capitalton but would also infuriate his grandfather.
โDo you think my wife is attractive?โ Silas asked abruptly, his voice raised to a higher pitch.
Gideon froze for a moment, then quickly greeted Silas and made a hasty retreat.
Calliope lingered a bit longer with Silas, but when someone came to discuss business with him, she excused herself and left.
As soon as she stepped out of the Baker Group building, she bumped into Gideon, who had been waiting for her. He hurried over as soon as he saw her.
โCalliope!โ
She turned to glance at him. โWhat do you want?โ
โYou still have feelings for me, donโt you?โ Gideon reached out to grab her arm.
Calliope deftly sidestepped, a slight frown crossing her features. โYouโre imagining things!โ
โThen why didnโt you tell Uncle Silas what I was up to earlier?โ
Gideonโs eyes bored into her. She had covered for him, after all. If Silas knew he had tried to kiss her, he wouldnโt let it slide.
Calliope raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips. โSo, what now? Are you going to ditch Yvette and choose me instead? Arenโt you afraid of your uncle?โ
She leaned in closer purposely, one hand catching Gideonโs tie with a bold, seductive smirk dancing at her lips. The proximity made his heart race, and he quickly stepped back, yanking his tie free, his brow furrowed in confusion.
There was no way he could call off the wedding or compete with his uncle for Calliope. He knew Silas wasnโt a man with a forgiving nature. Whether Silas loved Calliope or not, she was his wife, and he wouldnโt tolerate anyone else making a move on her. It was a matter of pride.
But Gideon had a risky idea.
He looked at Calliope, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. โCallie, I know you still love me, and you fear Uncle Silas too, right?โ
โSo?โ Calliope eyed him, his expression a picture of slyness, sensing the absurdity brewing in his mind.
โI donโt mind that youโre married to Uncle Silas. If youโre into me, we can still be together. As long as he doesnโt find out, we can keep seeing each other.โ
Gideon eyed her, appreciating her figure and flawless skinโsomething Yvette couldnโt match. Yvette, despite her efforts, had hands roughened by a rural upbringing, while Calliopeโs skin was smooth and delicate. The more he observed, the more captivated he got. He leaned in to whisper in her ear, his voice low and tempting. โHow will you know if Iโm not better than Uncle Silas unless you give it a try? If you donโt mind, Iโm more than willing to satisfy you.โ
