Chapter 220
Gideonโs eyes held a hint of sadness as he gave a self-derisive smile. โYou must feel happy now, right?โ
โHappy?โ Calliope shrugged. โNot really. You and I are done, Gideon. Your ups and downs donโt really concern me anymore.โ
With that, she sidestepped him, heading towards her car.
But Gideon reached out, trying to grab her arm. โCallie, let me give you a ride home.โ
Calliope deftly dodged his grasp, glancing at him before replying, โNo need, my driver is waiting.โ
โI insist,โ Gideon pressed. โCallie, hop in my car.โ
โItโs not appropriate,โ Calliope shot back. โIโm your aunt-in-law now, Gideon. Letโs not forget that. And youโre about to get married. Everyone knows about our past. What do you think people will say if they see you giving me a ride?โ
โBut I want to,โ Gideon said fervently. โIโm feeling really troubled, and I want to talk.โ
โNo,โ Calliope replied bluntly.
โCallie, I regret it. I really do. She doesnโt hold a candle to you. Youโre better in every way.โ Gideon took a couple of steps to block her path. โYou still care about me, donโt you? Otherwise, you wouldnโt have helped me at dinner.โ
โI wasnโt helping you. Eamon couldnโt stand it anymore and asked me to step in.โ She looked at him incredulously. โArenโt you claiming to care about Yvette? If you love her, you shouldnโt mind her familyโs flaws.โ
โIโฆโ
โSee? You really havenโt changed, youโre still a douchebag,โ Calliope scoffed. โGideon, if you carry on like this, youโll end up losing even Yvette.โ
She turned away, quickening her pace.
But Gideon was relentless, catching up to her. He tried to insist on taking her with him.
Helpless, Calliope turned to Gideon, glancing at his hand clutched on her arm, and uttered impassively, โGideon, let go. If you keep this up, I wonโt hold back.โ
Ignoring her warning, Gideon moved closer. Calliope frowned, swiftly locking his arm and, with a decisive motion, flipped him over her shoulder.
Gideon landed with a thud, staring up at her in shock. โCallieโฆ doesnโt it hurt you to see me like this?โ
โSpare me the gross line,โ Calliope said, her voice icy. She gave him a few more punches for good measure, then dusted off her hands in distaste.
โMs. Jewellโฆโ Her driver, an older man, had been waiting by the car and approached when he heard the commotion. โIs everything alright? I thought I heard something.โ
โNothing major. Just a stray dog.โ Calliope swiftly blocked the view by standing in front of Gideon. The driver squinted into the darkness, unable to see clearly and simply said, โA stray dog? Those can be dangerous, might carry rabies. You didnโt get bitten, did you?โ
โNo, I chased it off,โ Calliope said. โLetโs go.โ
โAlright, Iโll take you home.โ
As the driver turned to leave, Gideon tried to call out, but Calliope discreetly planted her foot on his mouth. She didnโt apply much pressure, but with his mouth covered, Gideonโs expression was one of pure frustration.
