Chapter 228

Given Uptonโ€™s status, what could he possibly have to trade? What did he have that Upton would want?

โ€œMr. Thorne, please, we need your help!โ€ Lisette snapped back to reality, quickly jumping in to plead on Horatioโ€™s behalf. โ€œMy brotherโ€™s legs are in critical condition, and only she can help him!โ€

Upton glanced at them, his lips curling into a cold smirk. โ€œYou really donโ€™t know who she is, do you?โ€

โ€œIf we knew, we wouldnโ€™t be here begging you!โ€ Lisette shot back anxiously.

โ€œYouโ€™re the ones who pissed her off, and now you come running to me for help? Thatโ€™s hilarious.โ€ Upton let out a chuckle. He didnโ€™t bother wasting any more time on them and simply turned to leave with Baber in tow.

Baber glanced back and stuck out his tongue. โ€œBunch of idiotsโ€“clutching a rotten apple like itโ€™s gold while tossing away real treasure!โ€

Horatio and the others frowned, confused by Baberโ€™s remark, and even more confused by Uptonโ€™s words.

What did he mean by that? Had they somehow offended the Miracle Doctor?

Impossible. They didnโ€™t even know who she was, let alone have the chance to offend her.

โ€œYou lot still standing around for what? Get moving!โ€ one of the security guards barked at them, snapping them out of their daze.

With no other choice, they left the hospital.

Inside their car, uncertainty filled the air.

โ€œHow could we have possibly offended the Miracle Doctor? We donโ€™t even know her! Uptonโ€™s probably just making excuses because he doesnโ€™t want to help us,โ€ Valerian huffed, his frustration evident.

โ€œThatโ€™s what I think too,โ€ Lisette agreed, before turning toward Horatio.

Horatioโ€™s expression was grim. They had come all this way looking for the Miracle Doctor, but not only had they failed to find her, they hadnโ€™t even gotten the slightest lead.

If they couldnโ€™t track her down, then heโ€™d be stuck in this damn wheelchair like before.

No, he refused to accept that. He needed to walk again. He wasnโ€™t going to be a cripple.

That evening, Calliope received an incoming video call from Baber.

At the time, she was sprawled on a plush rug, leaning against Million while casually playing a game.

When she answered, Baberโ€™s chubby, rosy-cheeked face popped up on the screen.

โ€œMommy! What are you doing?โ€

โ€œPlaying a game,โ€ Calliope replied with a gentle smile. โ€œWhat about you? Did you eat?โ€

โ€œYep!โ€ Baber grinned. โ€œMommy, are you free tomorrow? I wanna go out and play with you!โ€

โ€œTomorrow? Sure. What do you want to do?โ€ Calliope propped her chin on her hand, watching him.

โ€œI heard thereโ€™s a huge amusement park nearby! Daddyโ€™s busy tomorrow, so can you take me instead?โ€

โ€œOf course.โ€

โ€œYay! I knew you were the best!โ€

โ€œObviously. I love you the most.โ€

โ€œOh, Mommy! Speaking of which, those annoying Jewell family people were asking about you today! Daddy and I didnโ€™t tell them anything! They want you to heal that guyโ€™s legs, the one in a wheelchair, so shameless! They kicked you out, but now they want your help? The nerve!โ€ Baber exclaimed, his exasperation evident. โ€œMommy, do you need me to handle them?โ€

โ€œNot necessary,โ€ Calliope chuckled and said softly. โ€œThanks for keeping my secret, sweetheart. And I can handle them myself.โ€

โ€œActually, you should just tell them youโ€™re the Miracle Doctor and watch them grovel!โ€ Baber huffed indignantly.
