Chapter 228
Given Uptonโs status, what could he possibly have to trade? What did he have that Upton would want?
โMr. Thorne, please, we need your help!โ Lisette snapped back to reality, quickly jumping in to plead on Horatioโs behalf. โMy brotherโs legs are in critical condition, and only she can help him!โ
Upton glanced at them, his lips curling into a cold smirk. โYou really donโt know who she is, do you?โ
โIf we knew, we wouldnโt be here begging you!โ Lisette shot back anxiously.
โYouโre the ones who pissed her off, and now you come running to me for help? Thatโs hilarious.โ Upton let out a chuckle. He didnโt bother wasting any more time on them and simply turned to leave with Baber in tow.
Baber glanced back and stuck out his tongue. โBunch of idiotsโclutching a rotten apple like itโs gold while tossing away real treasure!โ
Horatio and the others frowned, confused by Baberโs remark, and even more confused by Uptonโs words.
What did he mean by that? Had they somehow offended the Miracle Doctor?
Impossible. They didnโt even know who she was, let alone have the chance to offend her.
โYou lot still standing around for what? Get moving!โ one of the security guards barked at them, snapping them out of their daze.
With no other choice, they left the hospital.
Inside their car, uncertainty filled the air.
โHow could we have possibly offended the Miracle Doctor? We donโt even know her! Uptonโs probably just making excuses because he doesnโt want to help us,โ Valerian huffed, his frustration evident.
โThatโs what I think too,โ Lisette agreed, before turning toward Horatio.
Horatioโs expression was grim. They had come all this way looking for the Miracle Doctor, but not only had they failed to find her, they hadnโt even gotten the slightest lead.
If they couldnโt track her down, then heโd be stuck in this damn wheelchair like before.
No, he refused to accept that. He needed to walk again. He wasnโt going to be a cripple.
That evening, Calliope received an incoming video call from Baber.
At the time, she was sprawled on a plush rug, leaning against Million while casually playing a game.
When she answered, Baberโs chubby, rosy-cheeked face popped up on the screen.
โMommy! What are you doing?โ
โPlaying a game,โ Calliope replied with a gentle smile. โWhat about you? Did you eat?โ
โYep!โ Baber grinned. โMommy, are you free tomorrow? I wanna go out and play with you!โ
โTomorrow? Sure. What do you want to do?โ Calliope propped her chin on her hand, watching him.
โI heard thereโs a huge amusement park nearby! Daddyโs busy tomorrow, so can you take me instead?โ
โOf course.โ
โYay! I knew you were the best!โ
โObviously. I love you the most.โ
โOh, Mommy! Speaking of which, those annoying Jewell family people were asking about you today! Daddy and I didnโt tell them anything! They want you to heal that guyโs legs, the one in a wheelchair, so shameless! They kicked you out, but now they want your help? The nerve!โ Baber exclaimed, his exasperation evident. โMommy, do you need me to handle them?โ
โNot necessary,โ Calliope chuckled and said softly. โThanks for keeping my secret, sweetheart. And I can handle them myself.โ
โActually, you should just tell them youโre the Miracle Doctor and watch them grovel!โ Baber huffed indignantly.
