Chapter 237

Calliope couldnโ€™t even be bothered to explain herself to Ulysses.

โ€œMove. Donโ€™t get in the way.โ€

โ€œWhat did you just say?โ€ Ulysses stared at her in disbelief. โ€œIs that any way to talk to your own brother?โ€

โ€œBrother?โ€ Calliope gave him a once-over. โ€œSorry, I donโ€™t recall having a brother like you.โ€

Ulyssesโ€™ face turned sour. โ€œWell, we donโ€™t recall having a sister like you either!โ€

โ€œGreat. So move,โ€ Calliope replied blandly.

โ€œCalliope, are you seriously not going to help Horatio find out who the Miracle Doctor is?โ€ Valerianโ€™s tone grew cold. โ€œHeโ€™s been good to you over the years. Weโ€™ve been strict with you because you were never good enough. Everything we did was for your own benefit. Donโ€™t you get that?โ€

Calliope crossed her arms. โ€œYou want to know? Fine. Iโ€™ll tell you.โ€

โ€œReally?โ€ Horatioโ€™s eyes lit up with hope.

โ€œThe Miracle Doctor is me,โ€ Calliope said seriously.

Ulysses let out a short, incredulous laugh. โ€œYou? Come on, Calliope. If youโ€™re her, then I must be the next coming of Christ!โ€

Calliope lifted her gaze, her expression as cool as ice. โ€œIโ€™m telling the truth. Believe me or donโ€™t. Itโ€™s not my problem.โ€

โ€œIf you donโ€™t want to say, then just donโ€™t. But why make up nonsense?โ€ Valerian folded his arms, glaring at her.

โ€œCallie, pleaseโ€ฆ My legsโ€ฆ I really need them to heal. I donโ€™t want to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair,โ€ Horatio began playing the sympathy card. โ€œYou know how much this means to me. Iโ€™ve never asked you for anything before, but Iโ€™m begging you now. Tell us who exactly she is and her whereabouts. Just ask Mr. Thorne about it, okay?โ€

Calliope was left speechless. They didnโ€™t believe her, yet they still wanted her to ask for them?

โ€œJust telling us wonโ€™t cost you anything. I donโ€™t get why you have to be so stubborn about this,โ€ Ulysses snapped. โ€œAre you really this heartless?โ€

โ€œI told you already. You just refuse to believe me. What else do you want me to do?โ€ Calliope shrugged. โ€œThen go find the doctor you believe on your own.โ€

With that, she turned on her heel and walked away, not wasting another second on them.

She had originally planned to find Baber, but when she glanced around, he was nowhere to be seen. Even the four bodyguards had disappeared.

Still, she wasnโ€™t too worried. Baber was surrounded by highly trained professionals. He probably just went to the restroom, she figured.

So, she headed in that direction. But when she arrived, there was no sign of Baber or the bodyguards.

โ€œMs. Jewell! Bad news!โ€ One of the bodyguards came running toward her, breathless. โ€œThe young master is missing!โ€

โ€œMissing?โ€ Calliope was taken aback. โ€œWerenโ€™t the four of you with him? How did he just disappear?โ€

โ€œHe said he needed to use the restroom, so we brought him here. We waited outside for a bit, but when he still didnโ€™t show, we went in to check. Andโ€ฆ he was gone! What do we do?! We split up and searched the area, but thereโ€™s no sign of him anywhere. You donโ€™t thinkโ€ฆ some human trafficker took him, do you?โ€

The bodyguard was sweating bullets now, his face pale with fear.

They all knew exactly what kind of man their boss was. He treasured his son more than anything in the world. No one was even allowed to so much as scratch the kid, let alone lose him.

If they didnโ€™t find Baber soon, they were as good as dead.
