Chapter 269

Calliope was calm and collected the entire time, effortlessly securing her victory.

Uriah had initially sat down, intending to help Calliope, but to his surprise, she needed no assistance. She was incredibly skilled, leaving him utterly defeated.

Uriah looked at Calliope with a complex expression. He had assumed he knew her well enough through Mavis, but now he realized he didnโ€™t know her at all. How could she be so adept at everything she tried?

He sighed inwardly, reminded of her husband, Silas. It was no wonder the two hit it off; they were both full of surprises.

โ€œDid I win?โ€ Calliope glanced over at Yara, her expression innocent despite her overwhelming victory. She looked more like she was the one who had been wronged rather than the one who had just crushed her opponents.

โ€œYou did winโ€ฆโ€ Yara replied, her emotions equally tangled. โ€œThe painting is yours.โ€

โ€œAnd my watch, too,โ€ Uriah added reluctantly, pushing his stake toward Calliope.

Mr. Hawthorne, another player, handed over his wager with a begrudging look. He couldnโ€™t help but study Calliope more closely. โ€œSo, youโ€™re the so-called good-for-nothing, Ms. Jewell?โ€

โ€œYep,โ€ Calliope nodded, โ€œThatโ€™s me. But Iโ€™m not Ms. Jewell anymore.โ€

โ€œI heard. Youโ€™re quite intriguing,โ€ Mr. Hawthorne remarked, clearly intrigued by Calliope.

โ€œWant to keep playing?โ€ Calliope asked Yara.

โ€œThis game seems your forte. How about we try something else? Do you know how to play poker?โ€ Yara suggested, still in disbelief that she had lost to Calliope. As a protรฉgรฉ of a gambling legend, Yara had never expected to get so thoroughly outplayed.

Calliope remained unfazed. โ€œSure, Iโ€™m game.โ€

More and more people gathered to watch, eager to see what would happen next.

โ€œDid Calliope win earlier?โ€

โ€œIs she truly that good?โ€

โ€œUnbelievably. The other three had no chance against her. She practically won three million with her eyes closed.โ€

โ€œIsnโ€™t the Jewell family known for calling her a jinx? With luck like that, she seems more like a good luck charm.โ€

โ€œExactly! She has an incredible knack for calculations. Sheโ€™s impressive!โ€

โ€œI wonder what theyโ€™re betting this time.โ€

The onlookers were buzzing with excitement.

Calliope lifted the bracelet from her wrist. โ€œIโ€™ll use this bracelet as my bet again. Ms. Xander, I heard you have a beautiful brooch. Iโ€™m quite interested in it. Would you be willing to wager it?โ€

Yara looked at Calliope intently. It was as if the trap she had set for Calliope had somehow ensnared her instead.

โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong, Ms. Xander? Having second thoughts?โ€ Calliope raised an eyebrow.

โ€œNot at all. Ms. Jewell, since youโ€™ve put your bracelet on the line, my brooch would make a fitting pair. Whoever wins, theyโ€™d look great together.โ€
