Chapter 308

โ€œReally?โ€ Calliope pursed her lips. He hadnโ€™t said he loved her, only that she was his wife. Was it only a sense of duty?

Calliope glanced at Silas and took a bite of the pasta. It tasted delicious, just the way she liked it.

โ€œHow is it?โ€ Silas asked eagerly, looking like a puppy wagging its tail, waiting to get praised.

Calliope couldnโ€™t help being amused by this rare display. At home, Silas was apart from the domineering figure he cut outside. Outside, he was assertive and commanding, but at home, he was like an eager and gentle golden retriever. And yet, that was part of his unique charm.

The more time she spent with him, the more she had fallen for him, unable to pull away. Sheโ€™d once thought sheโ€™d leave him quickly and had been afraid of him, but now she wasnโ€™t terrified. Instead, she feared heโ€™d suddenly decide he didnโ€™t want her anymore.

โ€œArenโ€™t you worried Iโ€™ll cling to you forever because youโ€™re so good to me?โ€ Calliope asked, taking another bite of pasta and looking up.

โ€œIsnโ€™t that what you want?โ€ Silas frowned slightly. โ€œAm I good enough to you? I feel like Iโ€™m not.โ€

โ€œIf this isnโ€™t good, then what is?โ€ Calliope couldnโ€™t think of any way he could be better. Silas was willing to give her everything he owned and look after her in every way. He granted her freedom in whatever she wanted to pursue. A guy like him was indeed one in a million.

โ€œBut you havenโ€™t spent any of my money,โ€ Silas suddenly looked a bit crestfallen.

Calliope paused.

โ€œI gave you a card, and you havenโ€™t used it.โ€ A hint of disappointment crossed Silasโ€™s handsome face. It was as if she was intentionally keeping her distance, drawing a line between them. Calliope hadnโ€™t touched the money he offered, even though he said she could spend as she pleasedโ€“even if she spent it all.

Calliope was speechless. Most men dreaded their wives spending too much, but there was Silas, upset she was spending too little.

She didnโ€™t lack money herself. She had more than she could spend and never thought to use Silasโ€˜. But seeing Silasโ€™s dejected expression tugged at her heartstrings.

โ€œWell, Iโ€™ll try to spend some then?โ€

โ€œThe faster you spend, the more Iโ€™ll earn,โ€ Silas said with a hint of a smile.

The Jewell family returned home in a state of disarray. Zelda was watching TV. She turned her head at the commotion, only to find her family stumbling in, looking worse for wear.

โ€œWhat happened to you all?โ€

She gaped at Horatio, soaked to the skin. A glance at Valerian showed he was a dirty mess, and her husbandโ€™s clothes were torn. Ulysses hopped in on one leg, his face swollen like a balloon, resembling a pigโ€™s head. Lisette seemed unharmed, but she was wearing a skirt, and his face was an unusual shade of red, not in a normal state.

โ€œIโ€™m heading upstairs!โ€ Lisette declared, rushing up without another word.

Valerian opened his mouth to speak but didnโ€™t follow, merely sighing deeply.

โ€œIโ€™ll help Horatio get cleaned up,โ€ he said.

Ulysses hopped over to Zelda. โ€œMom, check out my foot. Itโ€™s killing me! Damn it. I have a shoot tomorrow. The director will kill me looking like this!โ€

โ€œWhat happened to you all?โ€ Zelda looked at them incredulously, turning her head this way and that, unable to grasp the situation, only seeing their utter chaos.
