Chapter 310
Zelda was at her witโs end.
Horatio and the others had finished cleaning themselves up and joined the family in the living room. The rest of the family was there except for Lisette, who was too embarrassed to come down.
Monty sat there, looking utterly defeated. All he could think about was how Mr. Lopez, their client, was a lost cause. Calliope wouldnโt lift a finger to help, and their company was staring down the barrel of a disaster.
โWhy on earth did you go to that jinx?โ Zelda snapped at Monty. โSheโs nothing but trouble for this family!โ
She looked at her three sons, her heart aching for them. Then she thought of Lisette, who had come home looking upset and gone straight to her room, not to be seen since.
โWhat did Calliope do to Lisette?โ she asked Monty and the others. โSheโs been looking off ever since she got back. Did Calliope go too far again?โ
โJust drop it,โ Monty said, scratching his head in frustration. โWe might be going under.โ
โWhat do you mean?โ Zelda asked, puzzled.
Monty explained Mr. Lopezโs situation to Zelda.
โHe insists on meeting Calliope. And he was furious when he saw I brought Lisette instead.โ
โWhatโs Calliope got to do with Mr. Lopez?โ Zelda questioned, frowning.
โHow should I know? She claims she doesnโt know him,โ Monty replied tersely.
โShe just refused to help. She must be connected to Mr. Lopez somehow,โ Ulysses said with certainty. โWe wasted all that kindness on her when we shouldโve been focusing on Lisette!โ
โExactly. Itโs so disappointing,โ Valerian said, his brow furrowed. โSheโs grown more selfish, more heartless, more outrageous.โ
Horatio sighed, โI never thought Callie would turn out like this. We treated her fairly well, yet sheโs so envious, always blaming Lisette and accusing us of favoritism.โ
โShe was trouble from the start,โ Zelda sneered. โShe almost cost me my life when she was born.โ
โIt isnโt the time for that,โ Monty said, overwhelmed. โThe companyโs in deep trouble.โ
โWeโll find another partner without Mr. Lopez,โ Valerian said confidently. โIโll come up with something. We donโt need Calliopeโs help!โ
โWe donโt want it anyway,โ Ulysses interrupted. โEven if the company goes under, Iโve made enough in showbiz. We wonโt starve!โ
Zeldaโs eyes narrowed. โDo you think she has some indecent relationship with Mr. Lopez?โ
โI remember she used to cozy up to older men for money,โ she said with disdain. โHow did I have a daughter like that?โ
โReally?โ Valerian looked up. โIf that were true, it made sense why she wouldnโt admit anything before Mr. Myers.โ
โIt would explain her denial,โ Ulysses agreed.
โDisgusting!โ Zelda said, her face darkening.
Upstairs, Lisette stood at the top of the staircase, having heard every word from below. Her fists clenched, her eyes narrowed with anger.
โCalliope, you humiliated me, but youโll regret it. Just wait and see. Iโll ensure you pay dearly for this.โ
