Chapter 317
Fagan stood by Silasโs side, studying the photo sent to Silas moments ago. He had mentioned to Calliope that if she ever wanted to meet Dante, Silas could arrange it for her. Yet, he hadnโt anticipated that Calliope would go alone to find Dante. From the way she always acted like she didnโt know Dante, it seemed unlikely.
But the photo told a different story. Dante looked like he was on the verge of tears. There had to be some connection between them, and if it werenโt a deep one, why would he be so emotional?
โI couldnโt find any evidence that Mrs. Myers knows Mr. Lopez,โ Fagan reported, bowing his head slightly.
Silas looked up, a thoughtful expression crossing his face. โFind out who sent me this photo.โ
โYes, sir.โ
Within minutes, Fagan returned with an answer. โLisette sent it.โ
Silas raised an eyebrow.
โLisette is trying to stir up trouble between you and Mrs. Myers. I think itโs best to talk to Mrs. Myers and get the full story.โ
Silas stood, grabbed his coat, and strode out of the office with Fagan following closely behind.
Outside the hotel, Calliope paused and looked back, still puzzled over Danteโs behavior. His eyes had told her he recognized her, yet he wouldnโt admit it. After returning to his room, no amount of knocking had brought him back out.
Why? She searched her memories but found no trace of Dante. She didnโt know him at all. Yet, why did Dante act as if he knew her but refused to talk? His reaction was so strange. It was driving her crazy with questions.
Deep in thought, she bumped into someone.
โSorry!โ Calliope apologized quickly, looking up to see Silasโs flawless face.
โWhat brings you here?โ she asked.
โAre you okay?โ Silas frowned. โDid you see Dante?โ
โYeah.โ Calliope nodded with confusion. She didnโt understand why Dante seemed so keen on seeing her but then acted so evasive. Before seeing him, she hadnโt thought much of it. But now, she was more troubled than ever.
โHow did it go?โ Silas inquired.
โDidnโt clear up my confusion,โ Calliope admitted. โHe seems to know me but wonโt say why. He claims heโs not worthy.โ
What situation makes someone feel unworthy? Had he done something wrong to her in the past?
โYou have no memory of him, but he knows you?โ Silas grasped quickly.
Calliope nodded. โBut he refuses to meet me again.โ
โWant me to go with you?โ Silas offered, taking her hand with determination. He wouldnโt mind barging in and forcing Dante to explain if she was curious enough.
โNo need,โ Calliope shook her head. โHe looked so pained, like he was trying to forget something. Maybe he needs some time. He might reach out once heโs ready.โ
She had slipped a business card under Danteโs door. If he wanted to meet her, he would have a way to contact her.
Then together, they left the hotel.
