Chapter 342

โ€œBesides, they werenโ€™t spreading rumors; they were just repeating what theyโ€™d heard,โ€ someone said, trying to defend the chatter.

โ€œCalliope, whatโ€™s your next move?โ€ another voice chimed in.

โ€œYeah, even if you werenโ€™t expelled, youโ€™ve still got plenty of issues,โ€ a third pointed out.

โ€œThere are a lot of things you canโ€™t deny,โ€ someone else added, crossing their arms.

โ€œLisette might not be as good as you in academics, but sheโ€™s incredibly kind. Do you think academics is the only way to prove youโ€™re better?โ€ a girl in the back questioned.

Calliope looked at them all with a calm demeanor, her expression unreadable.

โ€œIโ€™ve never claimed I had to be better than her,โ€ she replied. โ€œI just think itโ€™s time for everyone to see the real her. Remember all those things that happened back in high school? Anyone still recall?โ€

The crowd murmured. They remembered the rumors: Calliope bullied classmates, smoked, drank, hurt animalsโ€ฆ

Someone called out, โ€œCalliope, you arenโ€™t trying to say you didnโ€™t do all that, are you?โ€

โ€œNo way, you canโ€™t argue with facts. Actions speak louder than words,โ€ another shot back, shaking their head.

Calliope maintained her composure. โ€œI know the truth speaks for itself. Thatโ€™s why I have some videos to show you.โ€

She tapped a few times on her phone, and the big screen lit up with a series of videos.

The clips started playing, showing someone in a school uniform tormenting a kitten, laughing maniacally at its distress.

โ€œCalliope, isnโ€™t that you?โ€ someone gasped.

โ€œYouโ€™ve lost it, Calliope! Are you trying to incriminate yourself?โ€ another voice added, shocked.

โ€œWho would confess to something so awful?โ€ a third voice rang out.

โ€œCalliope, how could you be so cruel to such a helpless creature?โ€

Lisetteโ€™s face turned ashen. She recognized those scenes all too well. How did Calliope get hold of this video?

She glanced frantically at Valerian and Horatio, desperate to leave, but it was too late.

The camera zoomed in, revealing the face of the perpetrator.

โ€œTake a good look,โ€ Calliope said, her voice steady. โ€œSee who it really is.โ€

The projection shifted, and Lisetteโ€™s face was unmistakably shown, her features twisted with a disturbing glee as she tormented the kitten.

โ€œLisette!โ€ a voice exclaimed, filled with disbelief.

โ€œNo way! Lisetteโ€™s supposed to be an animal lover. She wouldnโ€™t hurt a fly!โ€

โ€œCalliope, this canโ€™t be Lisette!โ€ someone protested.

โ€œYou must be framing her!โ€

โ€œWhy is it that if itโ€™s Calliope, itโ€™s not a setup, but if itโ€™s Lisette, it canโ€™t be true?โ€ Portiaโ€™s voice cut through the noise, her gaze piercing as she looked at Lisette.

โ€œLisette, what do you have to say?โ€ she challenged.

โ€œIโ€ฆ I donโ€™t know!โ€ Lisette stammered, shaking her head vigorously. โ€œI didnโ€™t do this! That poor kitten, I donโ€™t know who could have done such a thing!โ€

โ€œDid you hear that? Lisette wouldnโ€™t do something like this. She looks like sheโ€™s about to cry!โ€ someone tried to defend her.

Valerian frowned, โ€œLisette wouldnโ€™t even harm an ant? This is just ridiculous!โ€
