Chapter 402

โ€œHey, I thought you werenโ€™t coming back until tomorrow?โ€ Calliope asked, a hint of surprise in her voice.

Silas chuckled, โ€œI missed you too much. Did you bring me the gift I wanted?โ€

โ€œYeah, I got it. Youโ€™re back for good now, right? Not leaving again tomorrow?โ€

โ€œWhen did you get here? Why didnโ€™t you tell me?โ€ she continued, her questions spilling out as they walked hand in hand under the starlit sky, painting a picture of serene romance.

Silas gently messed up her hair, his voice soft as a summer breeze, โ€œI finished work early, just couldnโ€™t wait to see you.โ€

Meanwhile, Gideon stood at a distance, watching them with a hollow feeling in his chest.

โ€œGideon, stop fooling yourself. Iโ€™m your best option,โ€ came Yvetteโ€™s voice from behind him. โ€œWith Silas around, you know you canโ€™t compete. Even if I let you go, sheโ€™d never come back to you. And for the sake of the child Iโ€™m carrying, please, just let it go.โ€

Gideon turned to Yvette, his expression unreadable.

โ€œGo home by yourself,โ€ he said flatly before driving away.

Yvette clenched her fists, frustration simmering beneath her skin.

โ€œWhat are you doing out here in the cold? You donโ€™t want my grandchild catching a chill!โ€ Fleurโ€™s voice interjected, her presence as commanding as ever. โ€œI made you some soup for the baby. Drink it before you leave.โ€

Fleur glanced in the direction Gideon had driven off. โ€œYou need to get used to it. Gideon will never only have eyes for you, nor will he always be by your side. If youโ€™re marrying into this family, you should be prepared.โ€

Yvette frowned, disbelief etched on her face. โ€œWhat do you mean by that?โ€

โ€œIn families like ours,โ€ Fleur continued, her tone matter-of-fact, โ€œitโ€™s normal for men to have a few others on the side. Iโ€™m just giving you a heads-up. If Gideon finds someone else, keep your mouth shut. Donโ€™t think just because youโ€™re marrying him, you own him. Youโ€™re his wife, but that doesnโ€™t give you the right to control him. Your job is to manage yourself and have the baby.โ€

Fleur gave Yvette a pointed look. โ€œI hope you werenโ€™t naรฏve enough to think you could have some fairy-tale exclusive romance with Gideon. Wake up.โ€

A small, cynical laugh escaped her lips. โ€œLearn to turn a blind eye when necessary.โ€

Yvette bit her lip, holding back words she wanted to say but didnโ€™t dare utter. The wedding hadnโ€™t even happened yet, and this was how they treated her.

But sheโ€™d bide her time. Once married, she wouldnโ€™t be so easily pushed around. Especially not by Calliope!

At the bar, Gideon nursed his drink, the silence heavy around him. His friends watched him with concern.

โ€œWhatโ€™s up with you, man?โ€ one of them asked. โ€œYouโ€™re getting married tomorrow, why the long face?โ€

โ€œYeah, last time you werenโ€™t thrilled about the wedding, but you didnโ€™t hit the bottle like this. Arenโ€™t you marrying the woman you wanted this time? Whatโ€™s there to be moody about?โ€

โ€œHey, you alright?โ€

โ€œPre-wedding jitters, maybe?โ€

Gideon finally looked up, his eyes meeting theirs.

โ€œI regret it,โ€ he confessed.

โ€œWhat do you regret?โ€ They exchanged surprised glances. โ€œDonโ€™t tell me youโ€™re regretting not marrying Calliope?โ€

โ€œThat canโ€™t be. You were never into her. It was always Yvette you wanted, and now youโ€™re getting her!โ€

โ€œYeah, if anyone should be sulking, itโ€™s us. Weโ€™re still single, living the lonely life over here!โ€
