Chapter 405
Gideon staggered, brushing past his friends as he charged ahead. His friends trailed closely behind, trying to calm him down. โGideon, take it easy, man.โ โSeriously, arenโt you the one whoโs always been scared of Silas?โ โLetโs be real, without Silas, the Baker family wouldnโt be where it is today. Heโs had your back, and thanks to him, the Baker family has bread on the table. Is it really that big of a deal?โ โHe used to think pretty highly of you, didnโt he? You two got along just fine before.โ โYeah, Gideon, cool it. You donโt want to piss him off.โ Gideon let out a bitter laugh. โSilas? Heโs nothing. So what if I piss him off? I want to go toe-to-toe with him!
He stole my company, took my girl. He even went after his nephewโs girlfriend. Can you believe that? Itโs laughable, isnโt it? An uncle snatching his nephewโs girl!โ โJust because heโs got some talent and people fear him, no one talks about it?โ Gideon scoffed sarcastically. โGideon, stop talking! Seriously, youโre not helping yourself here!โ โGideon, youโre drunk. Let me take you home.โ They all tried to reason with Gideon, urging him to leave the bar and head home, but he wouldnโt budge. He was determined to confront Silas and take Calliope back. Gideon was as strong as an ox, and the group struggled to hold him back. Just as they reached the foot of the stairs, someone descended from the second floor. In the dim, noisy bar, the atmosphere suddenly seemed to hush. โWatch your step,โ Silasโs voice called out.
Everyone instinctively looked up towards the stairs. There was Silas, gently guiding Calliope down, taking careful steps. As they reached the halfway point, they noticed the crowd below watching them intently. โGideon, donโt!โ โShut up, Gideon, please!โ His friends were frantically trying to cover Gideonโs mouth, but he fought back. Gideon bit down on someoneโs hand, โLet go of me! Why should I shut up? Iโm going to confront Silas. Callie is mine, and Iโm taking her back!โ โItโs not just about her; Iโm taking back the company, too. Iโm calling a press conference. Iโll make sure every newspaper and every person knows what heโs done!โ โSilas is just Silas. Who does he think he is to take everything from the Baker family?โ โMy grandpa might be losing his mind, but Iโm not! Iโm going to fight back. Iโm taking back whatโs mine!โ His friends turned as pale as ghosts, sweating bullets. One of them shouted, โGideon, youโre drunk! Youโre going to ruin yourself!โ Another glanced nervously at Silas, saying, โMr. Myers, please understand, Gideonโs getting married tomorrow. Heโs justโฆ a little too excited and had too much to drink.โ Calliope hadnโt expected to run into Gideon here. On the way home, Silas had a matter to attend to, so they stopped by the bar. They had just wrapped up their meeting and were about to leave when they stumbled upon a very intoxicated and belligerent Gideon.
Calliope could see it clearly now; Gideon harbored deep resentment towards Silas. He believed Silas had taken everything from him, including her. She couldnโt help but roll her eyes, utterly exasperated by the entire situation.
