Chapter 416
Yvette noticed it too, and she was more than a little annoyed with Gideon. As soon as the ceremony was over, she pulled Gideon aside.
โGideon, today is our wedding day. Could you please not act like this? Everyoneโs watching, and youโre making it really awkward for me. Itโs embarrassing for both of us!โ
โI get it. Maybe youโre still hung up on Calliope, but you saw it yourselfโCalliope only has eyes for Silas! You canโt go against your uncle, and you certainly canโt win her back!โ
โIโm carrying your child, Gideon. If not for anything else, think about the child Iโm carrying. Itโs your baby! Your first child!โ
Yvette took Gideonโs hand and placed it on her belly. โDo you feel that? Itโs in there, your child! Itโs alive.โ
She looked at Gideon with hope in her eyes, wishing that the mention of the baby would change something in him.
And it did, at least a little. Gideonโs gaze softened when she mentioned the child.
He actually liked kids quite a bit, and knowing Yvette was carrying his made him feel something, if not for her, then for the life growing inside her.
Kids were always adorable. He was kind of looking forward to the little oneโs arrival.
โI get it.โ Gideon glanced at Yvette. โIโll play along.โ
Yvette finally let out a sigh of relief.
โBut you need to have a word with your parents, make sure they donโt cause a scene.โ
Gideon frowned and looked over to where her family was gathered.
Yvetteโs mom and stepdad, along with a bunch of relatives, were there, chattering about who-knows-what. They were probably up to no good. They knew there was a wedding, so there was no way to keep them from coming. Even though heโd warned them, it seemed Yvetteโs family didnโt take his words seriously.
โI donโt want any drama at the wedding, you understand, right?โ Gideonโs eyes were serious as he looked at Yvette.
โI know,โ Yvette said, taking a deep breath. She lifted her wedding dress slightly and hurried over to her family.
Calliope happened to glance up just as Yvette ran over to her family. Turning her head, she locked eyes with Gideon.
Calliope was speechless. She quickly averted her gaze. Gideonโs constant glances were making her uncomfortable.
Others noticed too, leading to unnecessary speculation.
Even though Calliope turned away, Gideon walked right up to her.
A bit of bad luck, she thought. There was no time to avoid him, so she just gave Gideon a slight, irritated look.
โArenโt you supposed to be with your bride? What are you doing here?โ
โAbout yesterday, Iโm sorry. I had too much to drink,โ Gideon said to Calliope. โDonโt worry, Iโll go through with the wedding.โ
โYou donโt owe me an apology,โ Calliope said coolly. โYou owe it to yourself.โ
Gideon paused, taken aback.
โGideon, sometimes we end up paying for the things we do, so itโs wise to think things through.โ
Calliope shot him a brief look. โAnd right now, with everyone around, speaking to me like this isnโt appropriate. You might not care about appearances, but I do!โ
